Wild Geese Motorcyclists Rev It Up for 10th Annual Charity Run
The Wild Geese Motorbike club is very proud this year to celebrate their 10th anniversary Easter Run for the Irish Guide Dog Association. We have been approached on a few occasions by the organisation and with other commitments were not able to help out. However this year we are delighted to do the run for them and the local hospice.
Irish Guide Dogs for the blind is a registered charity founded in Ireland in 1976. The Irish Guide centre is situated at Model Farm Road Cork. The first guide dogs were trained in Germany to guide former soldiers who had been blinded in the First World War. Guide dog training centres now exist in almost every country in the developed world.
The people who benefit most from having a guide dog are those who are blind or visually impaired who want a dog and can look after them. Guide dogs are provided free of charge. The cost of interviews, residential training, after care service and the maintenance and health care of the dog throughout its life are all met by the association. Volunteers are the backbone of the guide dog movement in Ireland.
2005 saw the launch of the Assistance Dogs Programme for families of Children with Autism.
So the Wild Geese urge you all to come out and support the Easter charity run on Sunday March 30th at the Walter Raleigh @2pm.To continue and progress the fantastic work of the Irish Guide Dog Association and Youghal’s Local Hospice.
Route of the journey for this year’s Wild Geese Motorcycle Run is:
Youghal - Dungarvan – Carrig-On-Suir – Clonmel – Ballymacarbry – Master McGrath Monument – Dungarvan – Youghal (160km) about 2 hours 42 mins approx

The 10th annual Wild Geese motorcycle club charity run took place today, 30th March and was a great success despite the atrocious weather we got!
We had a good turnout for the run with many familiar faces making an appearance again and donating so generously to our chosen charities, The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind ( whose volunteers were present on the day)and Youghal Hospice. The amount raised will be posted here in a few days when all monies are collected.
The hosts of this site very kindly videoed the start of the event and this will appear soon on featured videos section so a big thank you to Kieran McCarthy,(cameraman), Shane Supple (interviewer) and Mick Hussey (photographer)
A very big thank you to all who attended, the feedback was very positive even though we got the worst weather in nearly 10 years of holding the run. Thanks are due in no small part to my fellow members of the Wild Geese motorcycle club for organising the event and to John and Fergal, our Garda bike escorts, who were great.
Thanks also to Youghal Fire Brigade who gave us an escort to the town bounds and added colour and more noise to the occasion! Thanks to Youghal Radio in the guise of our MC for the day, Mr Tommy Collins and to all who so willingly helped out on the day with collecting(Dolores,Lorraine and Jos take a bow!), marshalling and generally making the event run smoothly.Last but not least, we thank the Walter Raleigh Hotel management and staff for allowing us the use of their facilities for the check in area.If I haven’t mentioned someone, my apologies !
More info soon!
