Youghal Councillor Wants Rail Line Re-Opened

Youghal Town Councillor Mary Linehan Foley wants to see the Cork-Midleton railway line extended to Youghal. The Fianna Fail Councillor asked the March Town Council meeting that to support her call and urged that “the public will be behind us.” Work has now started on resurrecting the Midleton line which, like Youghal, enjoyed a halcyon existence until private car ownership, road improvements, foreign holidays and relative prosperity let to its demise. Increased industrialisation towards Cork and diabolical traffic congestion has inspired its restoration.

Cllr Linehan Foley’s idea would prove a certain and easy vote-winner amongst the Youghal public. She didn’t table it as a motion for some reason though but says she will do so in April.
