Proposed location for Dunnes Stores at Indian Point, Youghal

Nobody is mentioning the ‘D’ word but a Planning Application by Galvin Developments, Killarney has most people assuming that retail giants Dunnes Stores are intended as tenants should the Application be granted.

The Application pertains to 9,300 sq metre site at Mill Road. Last year, the company successfully applied to have the site rezoned for Retail, Mixed Uses with Restriction amidst speculation that Dunnes Stores would become anchor tenants.

The Company proposes a development over three levels and seeks to demolish two factory buildings and a boundary wall to facilitate construction of 9,300 sq m retail space. This space will accommodate a department store as anchor tenant, a supermarket, ten other retail units, a 300sq m sports and leisure centre and a medical/health centre of similar size.

Two-level parking space for 305 cars is proposed along with site development works, services and landscaping. Access revisions will be reviewed to the site, which borders the North Abbey protected structure. The site’s dimensions exceed the entire retail space of the town, including Tesco’s which, along with Lidl, trade within 200 metres.
