Students and staff of Pobalscoil na Tríonóide were treated to a wonderful recital from the acclaimed concert pianist Mr Sam Rotman. From Phoenix, Arizona, Mr Rotman is a graduate of the Juillard School of Music, New York and has been the recipient of many awards throughout the United States and Europe, including that of ‘Laureate Winner’ at the 4th International Beethoven Competition in Vienna.
Having performed in over 56 countries throughout the world and totalling over 1800 recitals, Mr Rotman’s repertoire includes the great works of Beethoven, Debussy, Chopin and Scarlatti to name but a few. Favourable reviews follow his performances always, not merely for his virtuosic brilliance but also for a style of delivery that is both personable and unique.
During both recitals in Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Mr Rotman held his audience captive and spellbound, his carefully chosen repertoire was especially suited to a young audience with each work being preceded by a brief narrative. Pieces such as Chopin’s ‘Polonaise in C minor’, Debussy’s ‘The Sunken Cathedral’ and Beethoven’s ‘Turkish March’ from Op. 76 were so wonderfully animated that a lasting impression was made on this young audience.

Mr Rotman’s performance was both superlative and sparkling, never allowing his audience become disengaged. The pleasure he derives from his playing radiated throughout the room, creating an atmosphere of calm and intrigue.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Rotman most sincerely for taking time out from an otherwise hectic schedule to perform for our students, a sincere thank-you also to Meryvn Scott and Father Patrick Relihan who secured Mr Rotman’s appearance and co-ordinated the event for our fortuitous students.
