Here to Broadway
Musical Troupe Harmony

In a novel and creative project, famous songs with Irish connections are woven into a new storyline in Youghal musical troupe Harmony’s latest production. Director/Producer Finbar Hannon has taken over 20 numbers from such legendary artists as Percy French and George M. Cohen to create From Here to Broadway, the story of a teenage emigrant’s journey to London and New York in pursuit of his dreams.

The show, which opens on May 21st is set “in Ireland, London and Broadway, from 1906 to the 30′s” says Harmony member Ann Brookes. “The songs reflect the story and each has some sort of Irish connection, whether composer, singer, or whatever.”

The cast of 30, ranging in age from seven to 70, sees new faces join established performers in a group that has earned exceptional plaudits, through such hit productions as Many Young Men of Twenty, Some Enchanted Evening, Dancing at Lughnasa and the John B Keane tribute-cum-musical, Showtime.

Offstage but also new to the group, is choreographer Nicky Hayes, a woman well known in Cork circles but now venturing into her first collaboration in Youghal.

From Here to Broadway runs from Wednesday May 21st to Sunday 25th at the Community Centre, at 8 pm. Packed houses are synonymous with Harmony and disappointment may best be avoided by booking in advance from Cree’s Bookshop, North Main St, (Tel: 024-93899). First night audience gets a complimentary cup of tea or coffee and free draw entry for a high quality i-Pod.
