The Inaugural Midsummer Gala Ball at the Mall Arts Centre Youghal took place last Saturday night. The Society event of the year was the brainchild of Eamonn O Brien and Donnacha O’ Cearuill and these gentlemen certainly don’t do things by halves. The aim of the event is to raise funds for the Summerfest 2008, run by the Youghal Arts Network which is due to kick off in early August.
On arrival, guests were given a choice of a flower or corsage to compliment their tuxedos and dresses, which was really a lovely touch. The night began with a performance by Lar Na Cruinne a local based Irish group. This was followed by a delicious buffet style meal kindly provided by Jean Bernard of Le Gourmet. Refreshments were free flowing and generously provided by Beamish & Crawford.
The event was super stylish, the ‘fashionistas’ were out inforce and would give Carrie and the gals a run for their money!! Formal gowns from Maxi Dresses to Cocktail dresses were the order of the day. Bling Bling were a girls best friend and a girls right to SHOES!!! And Jimmy Choos at that. The theme was accessories- accessories- accessories! The ladies looked stunning and the men scrubbed up pretty darn well in their tuxedos! At last here was an event where Youghals fashion forward were allowed to shine.
So, with everyone fed and watered, it was time to get into the groove and on to the dance floor. The entertainment was provided by ‘The Roaring Forties’ swing band from Cork. These guys sure know how to play and are true professionals. They were in top form and highly entertaining - everyone was burning up the dance floor and it was great to see such enjoyment.
All-in-all, it was a glittering event and a night to remember. Many thanks to everyone who supported and attended the fundraiser. Don’t forget to keep those fingers clicking on to Youghalonline.com for all the info on the upcoming Summerfest 2008.
