Apart from a couple of gliches it went very well and everyone was happy with the first broadcast live from Claycastle Recording Studios in Youghal. We will definitely be going live again soon and the next band is Cobh-based Brian O’Glanby from the band US2. Hope you like the recorded show when we post it!
All the best

It was great to see YoughalOnLine putting Youghal on the map again last night with it’s first Web Cast.
No better Buchaill than James to set the tone, so to speak, in a very relaxed setting.
I was delighted for all concerned, as this project has great potential for growth.
I don’t know if stating the obvious is called for, but all concerned in the production end will have to pull
their socks up, if this project has a future.
A late start with no notice on the web page advising why, a single camera, average sound quality, no roving mike,
and poor lighting is not what I expected.
Even I at my tender age I look at YouTube and a lot of the home produced videos are a better quality than this.
I hope this is construed as constructive criticism, as I wish all involved every success the next time out.

To all who took the time to logon and watch our first live gig webcast from YoughalOnline.com we thank you all.
James McGrath & Band gave an absolute professional performance on the night they are talented musicians and were a pleasure to work with.
We ourselves had many hiccups along the way building up to the event and particularly 10 mins prior to the scheduled time of 9:00pm we had no sound for the broadcast.
Some of the issued we learned from this pilot test was to obviously increase the quality of sound, increase the lighting and try to find out why we could’nt get the stream to run a little smoother, with that in mind the issue of one camera will have to remain for the time being as the cost of equipment to allow a second or even third camera (The average combined cost of digital video camera switching hardware & software costs between €8,000 < €10,000) would not justify the time and effort put into these type of projects when we have no advertisers or ad revenue, all the time and effort from both band and production for this webcast was voluntary.
Broadcasting any event live with the current Irish upload bandwidth constraints is going to be tricky… we had an upload allowance of 300 kb/s to stream out to the web when the minimum recommendation was 500 kb/s however we can look into the possibility of reducing the size of the video window and that should help.
On a more positive note we have a high quality DV capture recorded on the night. Claycastle Recording Studio also recorded the event live and the sound quality is excellent, so we will combine both for a DVD and some high quality clips for YouTube etc. over the coming weeks…
Thanks again to all involved and for your comments and criticism, it all helps to make the next broadcast even better…
Regards
Kieran McCarthy
