YoughalOnline.com offices remained empty last night as all the crew headed to the Cork International Airport Hotel for the 4th Irish Blog Awards. By Shane Supple

- Bloggers at the I.B.A. 2009
YoughalOnline.com was nominated, out of the thousands of blogsites online from Ireland in their category – Best News/Current Affairs Blog. To even reach the final was a massive achievement considering the website is only in existence a very short time indeed. It’s the first time that YoughalOnline has been nominated for an award and to be nominated for such a prestige’s award was fantastic.
There were over 300 people from all over Ireland at the International Airport Hotel in Cork last night, the first time these awards were held outside of Dublin. The night was hosted by MC Rick O Shea from 2fm with video clips introducing each category. With over 20 awards being presented for each of the categories it was going to be a tough night for the judges.

Sadly YoughalOnline.com didn’t win an award, but the winner of their group Best News/Current Affairs, mamanpoulet.com also won the best overall blog award for 2009; to lose to such a worthy winner was in itself a sign of how high the standard was in this category.

Looking back at the year so far YoughalOnline have covered stories that would never be seen outside the town of Youghal. Your cousin, brother, sister, aunt or uncle ex pats or even people just interested in Youghal in any part of the world can log online and see what’s happening in our town. YoughalOnline has posted news stories, sports coverage, and local events even broadcasting live the St Patrick’s Day 2008 parade, local bands performing and other events. YoughalOnline has provided RTE, Network 2, TV3, Setanta sports, Sky sports, TG4 and other television networks news, public interest stories, video footage from our town all through the efforts and team at YoughalOnline.com. While the printed article on paper is still very much in demand YoughalOnline.com offers instant coverage of events as they unfold, in a world where everyone wants to know now, YoughalOnline can provide that service in an impartial and professional manner.

Michael Hussey, Warren Tivy, Claycastle Recording Studios Youghal and cameraman Kieran McCarthy
YoughalOnline.com’s Mick Hussey spoke briefly before the awards on Saturday night and said that to be nominated in itself was a hugh achievement, and he is right, it bodes well for Youghal to be seen by others from around the country, it puts Youghal on the Irish online map so to speak and shows that even though we may be a small town in Ireland we have the technology, skills and people that can compete with the best Ireland has to offer.

YoughalOnline cameraman Kieran McCarthy and reporter Shane Supple
YoughalOnline.com can stand tall knowing that their work throughout the year in promoting local news, events, through videos, photos and written articles have a wider audience then just the town of Youghal. As a result the nomination was well deserved and well received. They didn’t win the overall award but they did prove that YoughalOnline.com has something special to offer, and is unique in that it does for Youghal what others do on a larger scale for Ireland and some major cities.
There were thousands of blog sites online last year and to reach the final at the Irish Blog Awards was a testament that Irish people won’t sit down and be the meek lambs of old , that this generation will find a way of saying what needs to be said and exposing many things online to the world. Irelands unofficial watchdog, the bloggers can be proud of what they do, they inform with opinion, facts and a judgment that the Irish Government should take note of. The bloggers are real people, living in a real world and are at the grass roots level, they know what goes on in Ireland today. You have bloggers from young teens to professional reporters all represented at the awards on Saturday night. They have a voice and are not afraid to use it.

MC Rick O'Shea from 2fm
With the Internet becoming so much part of Irish life today it’s great to see Youghal represented by YoughalOnline.com at the forefront of this exciting new medium. Well done to all at YoughalOnline.com for reaching the Finals of the 2009 Irish Blog Awards. Everyone here at YoughalOnline would like to congratulate all the winners and nominees in this year’s final and hope to see you all again next year.

Any way my band DeXtra are from a place in Dublin called ballymun im sure you have heard of it and what we are asking you if you can is for some-one to come and film us in ballymun and for us to explain how ballymun has ghanged as an area and what the new development and the new ballymun holds for the future we are proud of our roots and want to give ballymun the name it desrves as a band sometimes we find it hard when we go to play in venues across ireland and people hear that we are from ballymun but after we play our set we get the respect we deserve we just want to set the record straight dont ask me what made me come across use guys i just got that feeling and here i am. So if you guys think you can do anything for us in any-way dont hesitate to get in contact with us sorry for the bad spelling cheers, God bless Declan DeXtra.
