High Spirits is a dance and drama group for young children in Youghal and the surrounding areas. It began in May 1998, the very first of it’s kind in Youghal, a club that has weekly classes and puts on a full production show every year. Photo: Michael Hussey (YoughalOnline.com)

To date High Spirits has 9 shows under its belt including popular pantomimes such as Sleeping Beauty and Snow White as well as very successful variety show’s.  This group is for boys and girls aged between 4 years and 16+.  It is great for helping the kids’ confidence, once you have performed in front of a crowd in the Youghal Community Centre, it’s a great building block for the rest of their lives.  In fact, past members have gone on to study the arts and perform as young adults, and will no doubt carry the love of the theatre with them for a long time.

This 10th Anniversary Show is sure to top any of High Spirits previous productions as it encompasses both old style pantomime and modern musicals.  Hence the name: ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT.  To open the show there is the ever popular Tiny Tots with their performances.  The first half which is devoted to pantomime is one that that High Spirits performed in their first ever show – Tomas the Theatre Cat.  It tells the story of a cat who lives in a run down theatre but dreams of the days when all the old favourites were on stage – Dick Whittington, Aladdin, Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  The second half in contrast is a look at what has been taking the West End and Broadway by storm in more recent years, Mamma Mia, High School Musical and Hairspray, and the one with the Cat in the Hat – Seussical the Musical.
