Speech by Lady Captain Breeda Curtin-This is Julie’s night tonight but firstly I would like to congratulate Edel and Julie for winning the Munster Schools Championship 2009,senior section, in Charleville on 20th March. They came 4th in the National Finals in Edmondstown in April. We have a pennant here tonight which will be put up in the Clubhouse to recognise this achievement. We would also like to acknowledge the great privilege it is for Youghal Golf Club to have members from our Club selected for the U18 Munster Interprovincial Girls team. This was held in Woodenbridge on 17th April.  Edel and Julie did us proud again on this occasion, even though Ulster won, Munster came a very close second. We were also very proud of the fact that our own Junior Officer, Eileen Farrell was Manager of that Munster team.  Eileen has been involved with Junior Girls for many years and gives freely of her time and energy to encourage them as much as possible. I must say the twins are great ambassadors for Youghal Golf Club.  Their behaviour on and off the course is exemplary. They are as courteous in defeat as they are in victory – such sportsmanship is very admirable.

By way of saying ‘well done’ to the girls and Eileen we would like to make them a small presentation.

We are here tonight to honour the great achievement of one our junior members Julie Coyne who won the title of Munster Champion 2009 in Shannon on 10th April. The last time this Trophy was won in Youghal in 1995 by Jean Farrell who was also a junior. This competition   is run annually by the ILGU and is a prestigious competition in the Munster calendar. There were 111 competitors in this year’s competition so winning this was no mean feat.  All her matches were hard fought but as you can see by the pictures her tonight – the jubilation and excitement when Julie sank that winning putt on the 18th was magic.  The pictures up here really tell the whole story. It was a momentous occasion and certainly one, which, Mary, Vera and Marian and myself were delighted to be part of.
