LABOUR Party election candidate for Youghal Town Council Donie Daly has said the provision of a children’s playground and grant aid for local voluntary groups working with parents/guardians must top the Town Council’s ‘to do’ list.
He said the town’s elected representatives have left locals down badly in failing to press the issue of a new playground.

“We have a population of over 10,000 people and I am travelling to Midleton and Ardmore with my 3 year old to access a proper playground. The millennium park has been closed to the public for two years which is simply not on. Meanwhile, you have estates like Sweetfield and Kerrys Lane that don’t have a blade of grass for children to play on either,” asserted the Labour party hopeful.

“One has to question what our councillors have been doing for the past two years. We have heard lots of talk but very little action. Despite promises by certain Fianna Fáil councillors of a June opening date, the reality is that plans for the refurbishment of the park playground have only reached the tendering stage,” he added.

Mr Daly said he will be seeking a fast tracking of the project if elected to the Town Council and will also explore what funding is available to Tweenies Playgroup which is providing an invaluable service in the town.

“Tweenies has been operating for 8 years and is a huge asset to those with small babies and children, many of whom cannot afford to pay for pre-school. It’s run on a voluntary basis but is badly in need of some funding. These are the issues that our public representatives need to be addressing.”

  1. I have to say best of luck to Donie. All going well I look forward to sitting in the first town council session after the 5th of June with him.

I think it is certainly time for a change and while out canvassing this is a recurring theme that I am hearing on the doorsteps. Hopefully the people of Youghal will ensure this will be the case come the 5th of June.

While Donie and I represent different political parties, nonetheless we have near identical issues that we would like to see resolved and both of us certainly have the promotion and development of Youghal both for the townspeople and tourists alike at the top of our agendas.

Despite the economic downturn I know that I remain enthusiastic for the future of the town. Fresh faces, fresh ideas and fresh thinking are certainly whats needed and I’m sure Donie will agree with me.

Best of luck again to Donie.

  2. Donie Daly says:

  3. Tara O'Connell says:

Good luck to all candidates. Donie it has been a pleasure to work with you over the past couple of months I am pleased to see such enthusiasm and dedication and Im sure that you will be a great benifit on our Town Council if elected. Keep up the good work !!

  4. Donie Daly says:

    Thanks Tara.
Would be impossible without the help of Tommy, Ciaraigh & Yourself. It certainly will not be forgotten.
