On October 2nd you are being asked to vote on exactly the same Lisbon Treaty that was rejected by 900,000 voters in June 2008.

Same Treaty – Same Answer – Democracy matters. Your vote matters

The Lisbon Treaty was a bad deal for Ireland and Europe then and it is still a bad deal.

Despite claims of the Fianna Fail government to have addressed the concerns of voters they have not secured a single change to the text of the Treaty.

The Lisbon Treaty will undermine Irelands voice in Europe. We will lose our permanent right to a commissioner from 2014.

The Treaty will undermine workers rights and wage levels and damage family farms.

The Treaty will commit Ireland to a common defence and foreign policy further weakening our neutrality.
There is an alternative. A better deal is still possible. Vote NO to the Lisbon Treaty on October 2nd.

  1. Whilst I’ve nothing against the above ladies personally, its their party I have several issues with, especially with this no campaign of theirs.

Also as a Youghal native I’m extremely ashamed to see that SF hold the top two positions on the Youghal Council.

Finally I hope youghalonline.com will be fair here and post a report on the YES campaign also.

  2. Dear Youghalonline,

Are these people serious? The Sinn Fein position on Europe and the Lisbon Treaty is based on dishonesty and breathtaking hypocracy. Sinn Feinn President Gerry Adams claims that the Treaty lacks a democratic mandate and that the Government should go back to Brussels and renegotiate a better deal. As he admitted on RTE’s news at one last sunday, this better deal would be based on Sinn Fein’s agenda. Yet Gerry Adams has no democratic mandate in this State. Neither doesn his deputy president Mary Lou McDonald. In other words, with approval ratings of roughly 8%, Mr Adams not only seems to know what is best for Irish people, he also knows what is best for an entire continent. Is that democracy? If we vote no in this referendum, the economic consequences will be devastating. Don’t just take my word for it, ask 90% of the employers in this State. I would trust them long before Sinn Fein. VOTE YES

  3. I’m sure they will jp. This site has always proven its political impartiality (although it has no obligation to-being privately owned and operated etc).

I’m sure the ladies in question won’t take offence at my own disdain for the party they represent, it is understandable that they will toe the party line locally, it is after all their job.

AIUI, the role of mayor is to be rotated amongst the FF and SF councillors. Some would say (I’d be one of them) that a fairer way would be to allocate that office in order of the candidates majority.

Anyway, that’s another days debate :)

  4. hi all,
this is not a political broadcast on anyones behalf, more a slur on the way in which the town of youghal and all towns are run,it does’nt matter who the mayor is in youghal, mclellan, hennessy, revins, coyne, linehan foley, daly and so on,what will they bring to the table, nothing absolutely nothing, all of these so called councillors are not in it for the good of the town, its what they can get for themselves, the town has fallen apart over a short space of time and not one of these so called councillors are doing anything, all you need to do is look at the council meeting minites, looking after each others area, jobs are the last thing these people care about, youghal has taken such a beating over the years ,these feckers should be outside dail eireann demanding answers ,they did’nt do it in the so called good times, some hope in a recession, you see cowen in the town hall before the locals, did’nt even have time to speak to linehan foley, what a leader, has any of these councillors ever called to your area anytime other than to canvass,i’d say i could answer that, NO,its so frustraing to see a beautiful town being run by idiots, theres no other word for them, youghal councillors just go ,your ruining the place and sitting back and letting it happen, bring in a community council, with frankie keane as chairman ,involve foroige the schools the clubs and people who love our town,it works in small villages and theres no bullshit and everyone helps everyone else, builds community spirit and people get elected who deserve it .
