‘What happens when we die?’ is the question answered by award-winning journalist Colm Keane in his sensational new book Going Home, which contains the most comprehensive descriptions ever provided by Irish men and women about life after death. The book features interviews with over 60 Irish people, many of whom have died. Through the use of modern-day resuscitation techniques they have been restored once again to life. On their return they have brought back wondrous stories of journeys to the other world. Most have travelled through dark tunnels, entered an intense brightness, been welcomed by deceased family and friends, and encountered a superior being. The majority have felt a profound calmness and serenity. Virtually all have been marked forever by these journeys. Along with relating stories of near-death experiences, out-of-body travel and death-bed visions, the author has discovered old accounts in ancient Irish manuscripts which mirror the stories being related today – these are contained in the book. He also examines the latest scientific evidence.
About the Author
Colm Keane has published 18 books – ten of them bestsellers – including the number one bestsellers Padre Pio:The Irish Connection and Nervous Breakdown. As a broadcaster, he won a Jacob’s Award and a Glaxo Fellowship for European Science Writers. Among his other books are The Jobs Crisis, Death and Dying and the Stress File – all bestsellers.

HARNEY PRESCRIPTION CHARGE WOULD SINGLE OUT THOSE LEAST ABLE TO PAY
The indication by Health Minister Mary Harney that the Government is thinking of slapping a charge on patients for every item they receive under the GMS scheme is a clear indication that they are determined to ensure that those who can least afford it, will bear the greatest burden when it comes to resolving the crisis in our public finances.
Labour accepts that there is a massive problem that needs to be addressed and that a budgetary gap of €4bn will have to be closed this year, but we do not accept that those who are least well off, such as people who are on the GMS scheme, should be forced to shoulder the burden.
The best way to make savings is the greater use of generic, non branded drugs which are far cheaper and will avoid targeting the least well off.
A charge such as the one suggested by the Minister today, will simply mean that those on the lowest incomes will be singled out and forced to pay what amounts to yet another stealth tax.
Labour believes that any additional revenue raising measure to be included in the forthcoming budget should be focused on those who can most afford to pay. For starters, we believe that there should be a third rate of tax for those on earnings of over €100,000, a proposal that the Government appears to have dismissed out of hand.

Elizabeth has been nominated for best radio play the “Cider Queens” at the annual ZeBBies Awards 2009. The ceremony will take place at the Sugar Club in Dublin. The two-part play first aired on RTE Radio 1 Sunday Playhouse last April 2009.The “Cider Queens” a poignant two-part radio play, explores the interlocking lives of three young women in the small-town tedium of 1970s Ireland. A bittersweet Showband soundtrack from the period, all platform shoes and glad-rag Glam rock, brightens an otherwise astringent study of public houses and private violence. The play featured Norma Sheahan, Dawn Bradfield and Jessica Regan.
The awards take place on the Thursday the 26th of Nov. 2009 and Elizabeth’s play is down to the last three in her category.
