The Blessing of the boats took place on Monday 3rd May in Youghal, Cork, Ireland, by Canon Tom Brown P.P. and the Rev. Edwin Hunter. The tradition is meant to ensure a safe and bountiful season. The video clip shows some of the boats from Youghal Bay Boating club, This year’s Kerry Rose, Youghal’s Veronice Hunt who will be taking part in the Rose of Tralee Festival. Speeches by Youghal Town Mayor Sandra McLellen and from the Irish Sailing Association Tony Wright. Also on the clip is Trevor Nangle and Aidan Foley as well as members of Community Radio Youghal. The event was also photographed by Barry Lawlor and Ger Leahy and you can see these photos in the slideshow below.
