Cllr Hennessy Reacts with Anger

Speaking in response to the statement by Sean Sherlock yesterday asking for the postponing of the withdrawal of ambulance services in Youghal and elsewhere Cllr Michelle Hennessy has reacted with anger.

She responds “The position on the retention of our ambulance services in Youghal is not up for postponement. We in Youghal want the services kept as they are. The idea that some people are working away in the background needs to be brought out into the open. The people making the decision need to be in no doubt that the retention of the services is what the public want.

Sean Sherlock has on a number of occasions since he was elected not used his position in the cabinet to further the fight for ambulance services and the front line health services. He has sheepishly voted against motions under the protection of the whip system which directly were in favour of keeping our ambulance service. This type of politics is what people are sick of. What we want from our elected reps is a clear and consistent position on what they support. You can’t be appalled on one day and then vote with the government and HSE who are directly implementing the cuts the next.

I would also like to call on the Cllrs who are members of the government parties to put it up to their masters. This issue is only the beginning of what this government are planning to cut in the future and the grass root members need to make this a red line issue and stand up for their communities. The protest this Saturday is another way of showing that Youghal and its hinterland is very serious about the retention of its existing services and I am calling on everybody to turn up and support the event”

well said on the issue of mr sherlock lets hope the ambulance is near by for him and the two fine gael tds for east cork …….while talking out both sides of their mouths .
maybe if they had a bit of courage and stand up and vote against the goverement on all these cuts maybe youghal would be ok with there ambulance service as its stress is why the ambulance is on the road day and night taking people to CUH with heart attacks and strokes .sure what would they know about the real world but they will coming knocking on our doors again like the now no more FF

Well said Michelle, perhaps we should ask people to postpone their illnesses as well, in line with Sean Sherlock’s plans

  3. Tom Slattery says:

It would appear that Cllr. Hennessy disagrees with Sean Sherlock’s assertion that any Ambulance changes are premature and should be postponed. Logically one can only assume from her disagreement with this position that she is in favour of the changes going ahead!

    • Will says:

I think you’ll find that, what she is saying is, there should not be a postponement of the plans, but a cancellation of them, and to maintain the ambulance service as is.

Cllr, Hennssessy perhaps you should have told the person who wrote this article for you( as having previously met you I doubt those words could have come fronm you ) to re- read Minister Sean Sherlocks statement again he said and I quote, “To be frank, my view is that the roll-out of the service is”absolutely premature” and should be halted immediately as the details had yet to be ironed out” . Cllr Hennessey if you want to grab headlines I suggest you do not do so at the expence of someone who is actually trying to help Youghal Ambulance Committee!! I do understand that Deputy Sandra Mclellan mentioned this issue once in a Dail speech but what has she done since to further the negotiations? Futhermore can I ask What have you as a Youghal resident done? Are you a member of the committee? Have you helped further the cause? No? Why Not? All talk and no action! I think so! Typical Sinn Fein attitude give out about everything without being able to offer a solution that make sense yourselves!Having read previous statements on this matter all TDs and public representatives were asked and enouraged to help in any way possible. Minister Sherlock seems to have taken that invite seriously and worked hard, be it in public or in the background to encourage and facilitate meetings between H.S.E. and Save Youghal Ambulance Committee.YOu dont seem to like the idea of people working quietly in the background even if it means getting results.Would you prefer they burried their heads in the sand and pretend that this issue was not happening? Maybe to you ignorance is bliss!!! I also know that Deputy David Stanton helped facilitate one of the first meetings!! I wish people like you would stop trying to look at the negative aspects of things just to get a name and stir up trouble. Please give praise where it is due and work together on this issue together instead of turning it in to a political party issue. I commend the small group of volunteers that is the Committe of Save Youghal Ambulance and thank them for the time and effort they have put in to saving our service. I am delighted to have people such as them dedicated to helping me and future generations to have a local Ambulance service and I wish them the best in their efforts on Sat and in whatever future fight they might have to face on our behalf, at least I know they will have tried their best!!

Posting anything other than fulsome praise of SF on the internet can lead to questions from canvassers (especially those who take the word of others as gospel instead of reading the site themselves to see what you ACTUALLY said), questioning your right to a fair opinion, and asking, I quote, “What did Sinn Fein ever do to you?”

I commend anyone who has gotten involved in the campaign, they themselves, and the rest of us, know who they are. Sean Sherlock is not the enemy here, nor is David Stanton. SF would do better to look at the party sitting beside them in the Dail, if they want, as they usually do, to play the blame game.

There is a protest tomorrow at noon at the Youghal Hospital. I’d imagine Tara and the others would be delighted to see as many people there as possible. Especially fellow councillors.
