Waddell Media have just produced the second series of the successful dating show, Mo Ghrá Gael on TG4. Singletons Síle Ní Scanláin and Ainle Ó Cairealláin are looking for love. They’ve decided to take destiny into their own hands and have appealed for other like-minded singletons to upload videos about themselves to their Mo Ghrá Gael website.
Having selected some potential dates the duo go on a road trip around Ireland to see if they can find true love. But not just anyone will do. Both are passionate about all things Gaelach and they have a long list of requirements for anyone hoping to win their hearts. Their journey begins in Dublin and onto Cork, Galway, Donegal and Belfast.
In each location they meet a bunch of other singletons looking for a significant other and chose someone to go on a proper ‘first date’ with. Will their dates do enough to impress Síle and Ainle? Can love be found in one day?
The series kicks off in Dublin next Tuesday February 7th at 10.00pm on TG4.
The second programme in the series comes from Cork on Valentine’s day Tuesday 14th of February at 10.00pm. For more information contact Edel at 0044 2890 427 646.
Síle Ní Scanláin
“Say little but say it well” – That’s what I always try to do when introducing myself to people… but I don’t always succeed!
I should start by saying that the most important thing to me when I want to start a new relationship with someone is that they are a nice person. Isn’t this what everyone wants? I love people who are relaxed and laid-back but who are fun and full of craic at the same time, people who understand that we are here for a short time and that we should enjoy it as much as possible!
I am a Gael who was born and reared in the heart of the Conamara Gaeltacht. The Irish language is a central part of my life and I couldn’t imagine not speaking it everyday – one way or another.
I love all types of music, except that heavy metal stuff, and I have to admit, although the era of digital music is upon us, I still love to buy cds. I am probably quite old fashioned about that sort of thing! Even though I own an iPod, I have a thing for buying CDs, and you can bet that if I was born in the 60’s I’d have boxes of Eps. I like to hit the odd gig from time to time too.
Reading is another passion of mine. I love to get my hands on a new book and you will often find me browsing a bookshop. As you can probably imagine I haven’t bought a Kindle yet and I am always in bookshops spending! I am really interested in media and in current affairs, and my family and
I are always arguing over something we have seen on the T.V. I love Irish language events and I’m proud to say I haven’t missed an Oireachtas since 1999!
Why am I going on this love trip around the country looking for my grágael? Well, because I can! And why not? I am single, I have been for two years, I am 26, and the world is my oyster, so why wouldn’t I take this chance to meet new people (especially young people who speak Irish) all over Ireland?
Fun, fun and more fun. That’s what I prefer when I am getting to know someone, but more craic, than ‘craiceáilte’ please! I love being in the company of people who are fun-loving in every way. There are so many difficult things in life these days, but I believe it shouldn’t be difficult to find love, and it shouldn’t be too stressful.
The date itself doesn’t have to be too crazy, for example, I love walking on the beach, but I wouldn’t be opposed to being swept away to Las Vegas for the day either!
As well as that, I am not looking for a man who has pockets full of money, but if he was begging me to go to Tiffany’s with him, I certainly wouldn’t refuse him!
I love a man who uses his imagination when he is thinking of a date. Although I am a little bit shy, I love trying new things. I’m extremely chatty – as they say “Anywhere a woman is there’ll be talking” and this is certainly true in my case! I love talking to people and hearing their stories and learning about their life experience. I am forever talking and I love having a long conversation with someone when I am getting to know them, so watch out speed dates! I’m afraid they might be a bit longer this year! I have never been on a speed-date so I know I will be under pressure to ask all my questions within the time limit!
Life is so short – we should enjoy it as much as possible. If you think you would like to take part on this love adventure with me, make sure you love lots of fun and great craic!
That’s all for now… looking forward to meeting you!
Ainle Ó Cairealláin
As the Black Eyed Peas say, “Where is the love?!” That’s the question that floats about my head while I search for a beautiful Irish woman.
Ainle is my name, and I’m 26 years old, a Belfast man by heritage. I have a degree and a master’s degree in Sport Science from the University of Limerick, and have been employed by my hurling club in Cork as a sport scientist and as the manager of physical fitness of the club. I work hard, but when the day is done, that’s when the fun begins.
I have a busy life and I enjoy cycling among other things, but hurling is my main past time. When I’m relaxing, I enjoy playing traditional music with my friends, kicking back watching good films, listening to music, or going to the cinema. I love travelling abroad and listening to other people’s travel stories. I would say I am a nice, honest, passionate person, and I don’t like being too far from the craic when it’s going on!
When we were growing up at home in Belfast, it was clear to me and my brothers from an early age that Irish culture would be a central part of our lives. Between school (I attended the first ever Irish medium school in Belfast) the local GAA club, traditional music, and communicating in Irish with friends and family, they almost forgot to teach us English at all! Unfortunately at that time, the authorities in Belfast were not as driven by the Irish language and we and the community around us had to hold the fort and promote the Irish language and the cultural rights of those who speak it. You could say that the language flows through our veins and it would be wonderful to meet a woman who had the same interest in Gael-culture!
The search for the right girl has been in full force for a while now, but until now I haven’t met her yet, or she hasn’t met me! I would love to meet a woman who was fun loving and enjoys trying new things. In my opinion, personality is more important than physical traits, but if there is an energetic, attractive woman out there who suits my personality then we are on the right road. One way or another, she would have to have a wild streak in her somewhere and not be afraid to show it.
