Following in a tradition that dates back to 1898, people lined the streets of Youghal to take part in the annual Eucharistic Procession. The first procession started way back in 1898 and has continued ever since. This is the 114th year of the event.

The procession began after 12 O’Clock Mass held in the College Gardens in Youghal on Sunday, 10th June 2012. Canon Tom Browne PP carried the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of Youghal for the adoration of the people. Flanked by Canopy Bearers, Fr Bernard Cotter, S.M.A., Fr Patrick Relihan and Fr Michael Murphy, led the oldest Corpus Christi Procession in Ireland. As has been tradition it is customary for householders to decorate their windows and doorways with religious icons and Eucharistic banners along the route.

Canon Tom Browne’s who is pictured carrying the Blessed Sacrament is celebrating his Golden Jubilee this month and an invitation has been extended to everyone to come along on Wednesday, June 20th to be part of the event with Mass at 7pm in St. Mary’s Parish Church, Youghal, and afterwards in the Walter Raleigh Hotel, Youghal.
