Eochaill Og GAA Notes.15th June 2012

Eochaill Og Match Reports and Results: Report Tony Farrell

Friday  01.06.12  – Venue: Copper Alley  – U14 Hurling Championship.

Eochaill  4 – 09                            Watergrasshill  9 – 07

Watergrasshill came to Copperalley on what was a great night for hurling, lovely and sunny. Youghal were in trouble before the off and a special mention and thanks must go to young Evan Kennedy for stepping up and going in goal. The Hill got the better start scoring 1 – 02 in the first 10 minutes while the Youghal lads were working very hard with two points from Dion O’Donoghue and Sean Smiddy with one point. The Hill got another 1 – 01 to go 2 – 03 to 3 points ahead. Youghal were playing their best hurling at this stage and this showed with Fionn Cliffe and Sean Smiddy getting a goal each while the Hill went on to score another 1 -01. The Youghal lads kept reeling the Hill back keeping in touch with two more points from Smiddy and Leon Coady a further point. At half time Watergrasshill were 3 – 04 to Youghal 2 – 06. At the start of the second half Youghal drew level with a Noel Landers point but the Hill quickly got another goal to go three points up, 16 points to 13. Dion O’Donoghue slotted over another point, and the game was back to 2 points. Noel Landers slotted over another point, down to a one point game. This was a great game of hurling to watch for all the supporters present. As the game wore on the Youghal lads slowly started to tire. During this period the Hills number 9 started to show his class and they added a further 2 – 02 to their score. Noel Landers got a goal back but the Hill went straight back up and got another 1 – 01. At this stage the game was over for Youghal but still they managed to add another goal by Jack Monaghan. The Hill scored two more goals to win the game 9 – 07 to Youghal 4 – 09. The score did not truly reflect how the game played out as Watergrasshill were not 13 points a better team than Youghal. Best for Youghal were Jack Nolan, Leon Coady, Dion O’Donoghue, Sean Smiddy and Noel Landers.

Monday 04. 06.12  – Venue: Courcey Rovers  – U/13  Hurling League.

Courcey Rovers   9 – 11          Eochaill  0 – 08

Youghal were in trouble right from the off in this game as the lads were just not up for it. This made Courcey Rovers look very good and allowed them to get scores at will with the result that at half time Courcey lead the game 6 – 05 to Youghal 6 points. Youghal had only fifteen players available and willing to make the long spin. The only option available to the Youghal selectors throughout the game was to move players around and hope for the best. The score in the second half was Courcey Rovers 3 – 06 to Youghal 2 points. Courcey won the game out on a score line of 9 -11 to Youghal 8 points.

The selectors would like to thank all the parents that gave their time to drive the journey to Courcey, taking players with them. This is greatly appreciated by the club as a whole.

Team: Evan Kennedy, Jordon Yellop, Jack McGrath, Killian Cahill, Jack Monoghan, Liam Forrest, Conor Kennedy, Conor Walsh, Dion O’Donaghue (4p), Jake Copper, Noel Landers (2p), Sean Smiddy (2p), Dillon Roche, Oran Hennessey(c), Rory McMahon

Monday 11.06.12  – Venue: St Vincent’s  – U/13  Hurling League.

St Vincents   8 – 14          Eochaill  1 – 03

Youghal had a fairly good team on paper but right from the throw in the Vincent’s midfield were all over us, running right through our defence  and had 2 – 02 scored within the first five minutes of the game. Youghal did not have anyone big enough or fast enough to stop the St Vincent’s number eight from running the show. At half time St Vincent’s went in leading 3 – 08 to Youghal 0 – 02. Youghal moved a few players around for the second half while St Vincent’s took off their number eight. With him gone St Vincent’s weren’t scoring as freely and the team’s looked more balanced. Unfortunately for Youghal, St Vincent’s had only the one substitute so when their full forward had to go off ten minutes into the second half their number eight came back on and the scoring resumed. St Vincents eventually won on a scoreline of  8 -14 to Youghal 1 – 03. Kyle Brown, Dion O’Donoghue, Peter Kirk & Rory McMahon all played well, but best for Youghal was goalkeeper Rory McSweeney and the fullback line of Evan Kennedy, Jordon Yellop & Dillon Hogan.

Team: Rory McSweeney, Evan Kennedy, Jordon Yellop(c), Dillon Hogan, Killian Cahill, Liam Forrest, Kyle Brown, Jack Monaghan (1), Jake Cooper, Sean Smiddy (1), Dion O’Donoghue (1 goal), Liam Mariga, Rory McMahon (1), Oran Hennessy, Peter Kirk.

Subs: Cathal Mariga on for Liam Mariga at half time. Dillon Roche on for Liam Forrest with 10 minutes remaining.

Monday 13.06.12  – Venue: Sliabh Rua  – U/13  Football League.

Sliabh Rua   5 – 16          Eochaill  0 – 03

Youghal knew they were going to be up against it in this game so it was a case of trying to keep the score down as best as possible. Sliabh Rua had us under all sorts of pressure right from the off.

The Youghal back six and midfield were working very hard but were really up against it. At half time Sliabh Rua lead 4 – 08 to Youghal 0 – 00. In the second half Youghal made a few players move around just to see how they would play in different positions. This seemed to work a small bit keeping the Sliabh Rua score down to 1 – 08 in this half. Best for Youghal was goalkeeper Liam Mariga who made saves Pat Mackey would be proud of. After the game all the Sliabh Rua selectors were asking us about him. The final score was Sliabh Rua 5 – 16 to Youghal 0 – 3.

Team: Liam Mariga, Jack Nolan, Tyrone Hennessey, Jordon Yellop, Conor Kennedy, Leon Coady, Jack Monaghan, Rian McSweeney, Zach Downing, Dion O’Donoghue (1), Aaron O’Callaghan (c), Sean Hennessey, Dillon Hogan, Killian Cahill, Fionn Cliffe (1).

Subs: Cathal Mariga (1) on for Killian Cahill at half time, Dillon Roche on for Dillon Hogan with 10 minutes left.
