Members of the community were asked to pledge a Euro or more per request played over the duration of the event. Collection tins were also placed in retail outlets in the area and volunteers from both organisations generously gave of their time to hold bucket collections on the streets of Youghal.

The event raised a total of €2,522.57. This week, Community Radio Youghal (C.R.Y104fm) presented a cheque for €1,300 – a little over half of the funds raised -   to members of the St Mary’s Conference, Youghal St Vincent de Paul.

Speaking at the cheque presentation, John Power, PRO of the local branch of St Vincent de Paul thanked all who had given so generously of their time and those who had contributed their hard earned cash. Mr Power said that the St Vincent de Paul is “under pressure”, with “a lot of new clients”  nationally and locally. As he thanked C.R.Y104fm for supporting St Vincent de Paul through the Radiothon, Mr Power  made a special appeal to anyone who received support from the organisation in the past to consider “giving something back” when their own finances improve.
C.R.Y104fm Station Manager, Declan Gibbons thanked all who donated so generously to the Radiothon. “C.R.Y’s share of the proceeds is going to our Relocation Fund, to help us provide a better service and facilities to volunteers, members, listeners and the greater community in our planned new premises at Nagle House”. He paid particular tribute to all of the volunteers who had donated their time to present programmes, answer phones, collect money and support the Radiothon in any way. “Over 40 volunteers were involved on-air during the Radiothon, but so many more worked hard behind the scenes to make this event a success”, he said.
