FEATURING the work of three artists, Andrea Cashell, Eileen McGoldrick and Lora Murphy, the Exhibition opens on 20th of July and runs until 17th of August 2012 at McGoldrick’s Art and Photography Gallery, 89 North Main Street, Youghal, Co. Cork.
The show will be opened by 98fm Broadcasting Journalist and Head of News, Teena Gates. Gates was staring death in the face tipping the scales at 23 stone when her Doctor shocked her into losing 12 stone in order to undergo lifesaving surgery. Since then she has gone on to achieve many goals, not least, climbing to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas. But for many people her most daunting challenge was posing nude for this exhibition. Fortunately, the experience proved very positive for Gates who declared she felt a real sense of release and empowerment. The paintings of Gates included in the show are a celebration of the human spirit and depict someone happy in their own skin. Teena Gates is the Author of ‘One Foot in Front of the Other’.

NUDE: An exhibition of paintings exploring the human form – The Exhibition opens on 20th of July and runs until 17th of August 2012 at McGoldrick’s Art and Photography Gallery, 89 North Main Street, Youghal, Co. Cork.
Lora Murphy; Lora is an Irish painter, designer and teacher whose work has taken her all over the globe. After earning degrees in Art History and Archaeology she moved to America. In the States she studied at the famous Art Students League in New York City. This was followed by long stints in Guatemala, Australia and Denmark painting all the time. She lived in the wilds of Montana and Alaska for the following 9 years and discovered Encaustic painting (a mixture of bees wax and pigment) along the way.
Lora returned to Europe four years ago and has been painting, exhibiting and teaching as well as recently completing a course of study at a Classical Art Atelier in Florence, Italy. She paints every day at her studio over Gallery Frida, 38 South Main St in Youghal which she runs with her husband Lars Moeslund.
Belfast born Eileen McGoldrick runs McGoldrick’s Art & Photography Gallery beside the Clock Gate in Youghal. She studied painting in Belfast and Birmingham and lived for over 25 years in Oxford. Eileen’s work has always been experimental, using mixed media to create striking images that challenge the viewer. The work featured in this show is a departure from her usual style, concentrating for the most part on watercolours. Eileen’s deft brushstrokes and innate sense of colour demonstrate her mastery of the medium. The paintings of Gates in particular really capture her subject’s joie de vivre and indomitable spirit. Eileen has exhibited widely in solo exhibitions throughout Ireland and the UK, and her work hangs in Private and Municipal collections in Europe and the US.
Local artist Andrea Cashell works from her studio in Youghal. She studied painting in Crawford College of Art and later ceramics in N.C.A.D. Cashell believes her sculptural background has been a major influence on how she paints today. Her paintings are larger than life size and focus entirely on the subjects face. This gives the portraits a strong intense presence, capturing the compelling power of the human face.
