Youghal hosts the 28th annual Goldwing Treffen (the German word for gathering)
Irish Goldwing Treffen in Youghal from the 16th– 18th August 2012
YOUGHAL GOLDWING OWNERS CLUB OF IRELAND are hosting the 28th Irish International Goldwing Festival 2012. The town welcomes up to 800 Goldwing owners from all over Europe. Visitors to Youghal can enjoy a wide variety of events that have been planned for the three day festival which include a lights parade where 800 bikers will travel through the town after dark with a display of fabulous lights.
Local man and Goldwing biker Paddy Crowley who is one of the main organisers of the event said that Goldwing bikers from Norway, Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Britain will mix with Irish bikers to show off the classic machines. The Honda bikers will be based at Youghal GAA Club during their stay.
Paddy said, “They will start arriving in the town Wednesday 15th August. On the Friday we are organising a ride up over the Commeragh Mountains into Cahir and we will come back into Clogheen, over The Vee into Lismore, Tallow and back to Youghal”
At around 9.30pm that day the motorcyclists will switch on all their lights for what should be a “spectacular light parade” from the town out to Summerfield and back.
On the Saturday they will form a convoy travelling to Cobh to attend that town’s annual regatta, arriving there at approximately 2.15pm.
Another drive-through will take place in Youghal at around 3.30pm at which the bikers will fly the flags of their respective nations.
The Youghal RNLI will demonstrate a joint air sea rescue excerise with the Coast Guard Helicopter and the Youghal Lifeboat “Patricia Jennings” at approx 3pm, Saturday 18th 2012, on the river Blackwater.
Youghal Chamber will organise a major food fare featuring dishes from these nations in the town that afternoon.
