Eochaill Og Match Reports and Results:

Friday 24.08.12 – Venue: Club Aras – Fr Seanie Barry Cup/Finbarr Desmond Cup

Friday 24 August in the Fr Barry/Desmond Cup the Youghal under 14 hurlers welcomed a very good Cloughduv team to Magniers Hill. Youghal needed all their players available to have any chance in this one, but only twelve players turned up. It looked like a wasted journey for the Cloughduv team and mentors but for two of Youghal’s great up and coming camogie players Amerah Goggin and Aoife McCarthy joining in, leaving camogie training to play, thanks girls. So the game went ahead, fourteen aside under lights in the rain. Cloughduv were on top from start to finish and the Youghal team could not compete with them. On a positive note some of the Youghal players had good games. Amerah and Aoife both had very good games and the Cloughduv selectors could not get over how good they were. Fionn Cliffe had a good game in goal and both Leon Coady and Liam Forrest worked very hard for the hour.

Team: Fionn Cliffe, Amerah Goggin, Liam Forrest, Dillon Hogan, Conor Kennedy, Conor Walsh, Jordon Yellop, Leon Coady (2p), Aoife McCarthy, Jack Monaghon (1p), Dion O’Donaghue (2p), Sean Hennessy, Sean Smiddy, Jamie Shea.

Tuesday 28.08.12 – Venue: Club Aras – Fr Seanie Barry Cup/Finbarr Desmond Cup

On Tuesday 28th August the Youghal Under 14 hurlers played round 3 off the Fr Seanie Barry/Finbarr Desmond Cups. Having been well beaten in the first two games, Youghal were going to have their hands full with Kiltha Og, and even with home advantage we knew it was going to be a case of doing the best we could on the night. Kiltha Og went on to win the game comfortably but this bunch of Youghal players are in this for the long haul and give a very good account of themselves every game they play. It will eventually come good for them if they stay together, especially with all the hard training and games they are getting, but it could be next year or the year after before all the hard work and effort starts paying off. Best for Youghal were Jordon Yellop, Fionn Cliffe, Dion O’Donoghue & Noel Landers both with two points each.

Team: Rory McSweeney, Jack Nolan, Liam Forrest, Jordon Yellop, Jack Monaghan, Leon Coady, Liam Mariga, Conor Walsh (1p), Rian McSweeney, Conor Kennedy, Noel Landers (2p), Fionn Cliffe, Cathal Mariga (c), Dion O’Donoghue (2p), Dillon Hogan.

Subs: Oran Hennessy & Jack McGrath both came on at half time Jamie Shea & Jamie Yellop both came on with 15 minutes left in the game.

Friday 31.08.12 – Under 11 West Waterford League – Round 1.

The Youghal under 11 Team played their first games of the West Waterford Football leagues this
evening in Dungarvan. There were 17 lads and one girl attended and we had two matches. The players gave it all that they had and played fantastic. They ensured that they got most of the possession and the ball was constantly moving while finding their fellow players with passes.
Their first match was against Dungarvan. The lads had the lead from the start and maintained it to the final score which ended Youghal 7 goals and 4 points to Dungarvan’s 3 goals and 4 points.
The second match was against St Olivers and again the lads played fantastic. Although they were defeated by two goals in the end, they still put in their best efforts. After tonight’s performance, this team made Youghal proud and will go from strength to strength. We also had great support on the sideline to cheer the team on. It is also great to see our numbers on the increase

Team: Dean Savage, Becca Arthur, Ian Hehir, Alan Carter, Ross Kelly, Kelvin Yellop, Cian O’ Sullivan, Oran Finn, Jake O’ Brien, Padraig Quilligan, Aidan Kelly, John Murphy, Conor Cloghessy, Darragh O’ Shea, Aaron Fitzgerald, Ethan Cliffe, Adam Dempsey, Josh Fitzgerald

Friday 31.08.12 – Venue: Club Aras – Fr Seanie Barry Cup/Finbarr Desmond Cup

Friday 31 August in the Barry/Desmond Cup round 4, Bride Rovers came to Youghal for a 7.30pm throw in, under lights, on what was a good dry night for hurling. Both teams had played one another three to four times in the last two years with only ever a point or two between them. Unfortunately for Youghal, on each past occasion Bride Rovers always came out on top, but we believed that this game was going to be our best chance of getting a win in this tournament. Rovers had only fourteen players, so we played fourteen a side with one player each in midfield. The first half was a very close affair with Rovers going in at half time one goal ahead on a score of 3 – 03 to Youghal 2 – 03. Even though we were behind, the Youghal lads came off the pitch very confident they could take this one, with Leon Coady telling the boys “Come on lads we can take them, Come on boys we have them rattled”. Youghal made a few changes at half time and with that our back six and midfield got on top, keeping Rovers down to two scores in this half. This dominance started to pay off and with our forwards getting a good supply of ball they managed to score 1 – 05 to win the game on a score line of 3 – 08 to 3 – 05. Best for Youghal were Fionn Cliffe in goal, who had a great game, Liam Forrest at fullback, Leon Coady and Zach Downing in the halfback line, Conor Walsh in midfield and the half forward line of Dion, Noel & Jack Monaghan. Conor Kennedy at corner forward had the game of his life, while Rian Mc Sweeney worked very hard all day. After all the hard work put in this year the taste of victory is very sweet. Scorers for Youghal were Jack Monaghan 1 – 02, Conor Kennedy 1 – 01, Dion O’Donoghue 3 points, Rian Mc Sweeney 1 goal,

Leon Coady & Noel Landers 1 point each

Team: Fionn Cliffe, Jack Nolan, Liam Forrest, Jordon Yellop, Dillon Hogan, Leon Coady, Zach Downing, Conor Walsh, Dion O’Donoghue, Noel Landers, Jack Monaghan, Conor Kennedy, Rian Mc Sweeney (c), Cathal Mariga.

Subs on at half time Liam Mariga for Dillon Hogan, Sean Hennessey for Cathal Mariga

01.09.12 – Venue: Club Aras – Youghal Under 8’s versus Midleton.

The Youghal under 8’s played Midleton at home on Saturday morning last the 1st inst. Once again we fielded two teams. This week it was team 2 that could do nothing wrong and won out easily. A special thanks must go to Bobby Nicholson and James Murray who stepped up from the under 7’s to help us out. Team 1 had a much tougher game going 3 goals down early in the game but with hard work and some great hurling they got themselves back into the game. At the full time whistle the ref said it was a draw but the Youghal lads believed they won by a point. Either way this was one of the best games they played all year, so well done to all.

Teams: Jack Corcorcan, Kyle Ansbro, Arron Crowely, Charlie Flavin, Micheal Mc Carthy, Jack Nicholson, Leon O’Connor-Kenneally, Dean Roche, Jack Murray, Ben Barret, Conall Doyle, Conor O’Shea,Aaloiaye Suleman, Ben Bulman-Gibbs, Ewan Mc Caughey, Oscar Moriaty, Ben Murphy, Sean O’Sullivan, Ben O’Connell, Alex Lenane, Daniel Murray, Alex Kennedy, James Murray, Bobby Nicholson.

Tuesday 04.09.12 – Minor A East Football Semi Final.

On Tuesday the 4th of September we travelled to Ballinure Gaa in Mahon to take on Western Gaels. It was a perfect evening for football with nice sun shine and little wind.

We started very smartly and had 3 good points on the board 2 of which from Andrew Joyce who was playing well at half forward. We had a lapse in concentration and this let the Gaels in for what could only be described as an easy goal bringing them back on level terms. Western Gaels then upped the anti, lead by their impressive centre forward and Cork minor Cathal Vaughan. The loss of Lee McCarthy through injury did not help our cause as he was having a fine game at full back. They orchestrated another goal from a well worked move and we were behind by 6 points after trading a few points previous. We fought back with great heart and scored 2 goals ourselves through Andrew Joyce and David O’Mahony and their keeper made a great save to deny Dale Donoghue a goal and their corner back cleared a ball off the line. Then came the turning point in the game.

We found ourselves 6 points down again after letting in a soft goal from a lobbing ball and giving away a penalty which was a lead we were never able to get back. The score at half time was 4-6 to 2-6.

We battled hard for the second half but could not breach a strong Western Gaels defence and when Chris Savage was sent off for a 2nd bookable offence which resulted in a penalty the game was well and truly over but in fairness to the likes of Odhran Brennan, David Twomey, Ronan O Sullivan, Ollie Dempsey and Andrew Joyce we never stopped trying. On the night the better team won but it was not a true reflection of the football talent that this crop of players have and with still a league title to play for the year is not over yet.

Final score Western Gaels 6-12 to Youghal 2-9

Team: D Walsh, O Brennan, L McCarthy, C Morrison, C Keeneghan, R O’Sullivan, M Farrell, B O’ Donoghue, D Twomey, T Coleman, D O’Mahony, A Joyce, M Flaherty, D Donoghue, O Dempsey.

Subs Used: C Savage, J Murphy, G O’Regan, C Daly.
