Youghal Mackerel Festival a huge success

Martin Shanahan from RTE’s ‘Martin’s Mad About Fish’ was the special guest of the Youghal Mackerel Festival which took place over the weekend ( 31st Aug – 2nd Sept.)and was considered a huge success by the organisers.

This was the second year of Youghal Mackerel Festival with the number of people taking part in the different activities considerably higher than last year.

The festival was officially opened by Martin Shanahan on Friday evening and he also took part in the fish trail running throughout the town.

The festival was organised by Youghal4All group and among the different activities which took place over the weekend were mackerel tasting, Beach Volleyball, Art Competition, a sandcastle building competition. The weekend concluded with the band ‘Arcadia’ rocking in up at Barry’s Lane on Sunday afternnoon.

Commence tasting fish starters at La Bella Roma and continue the fish trail at the following restaurants – Luigi’s, Aherne’s Seafood Restaurant, Capri Bay, The Quays, Olé Olé, The Imperial Hotel, The Red Store. All Free of Charge! Fish kindly supplied by fishermen Kevin Murphy, Barry Cloghessy, James Roche, Kieran Foley.
