Joe Hennon, Environment spokesperson for the EU Commission said that the long-term plan from this initiative is to remove more cars from the streets: “35% of people in Copenhagen cycle to work and their target is to increase that to 50%, public transport is a big part of it and there are a lot of cities where they have very comprehensive either bus, rail or tram networks or a combinations of all of those, the basic idea is to take cars off the street so you have less congestion and less air pollution”
