Last Friday (15/3/’13) evening saw the launch of the latest documentary series produced by Community Radio Youghal (CRY 104FM) entitled ‘Youghal CYMS’ which is presented and narrated by Derek Kiely, broadcaster and current PRO of the National body for Billiards and Snooker the Republic of Ireland Billiards and Snooker Association (RIBSA)
The two part series will air on Thursday the 21st and Thursday the 28th of March at 6.30pm on CRY 104FM and captures the thoughts and memories of integral members of the St. Mary’s Branch of the Youghal Catholic Young Men’s Society.
Mr Kiely speaking at the launch said “I am delighted to be part of the history making of the Youghal CYMS and in my own small way I hope I have contributed to a little piece of Archive for the CYMS, we could have done 20 one hour programmes on the Society and still wouldn’t have captured everything, but with just two 30 minute programmes we did the very best we could, I hope that people enjoy the programmes for what they are”.
Also present was Brendan Cooney who is the current President of the Youghal CYMS and he said “We know how important the Community Radio station is to our town and we are delighted that this programme has been made. We are very proud of our Society and thrive to be an integral part of the Youghal Community and programmes like these are very important”.
Station Manager at CRY 104FM Declan Gibbons was joined by CRY Staff and the Chairman of the Board at Community Radio Youghal, Mr Mervyn Scott, who re-iterated the important part that groups like the Youghal CYMS in the fabric of Youghal Society and as the ‘Voice of the Community’ in so many ways it is vital that local history is recorded.
