On the 21st June 2013, the summer solstice, the banks of the river Blackwater will be alive with people coming together and celebrating the beautiful Munster Blackwater River as part of the gathering 2013.
The Blackwater is 179km long and the organisers plan to have each community, organisation, church and sports group along the river to extend an invitation to friends and family abroad to review and celebrate the blackwater valley, which flows through the counties of Kerry, Cork and Waterford.
The organiser will facilitate families and communities along the river to light friendly bonfires, Chinese lanterns and many more methods to light up the river. This will no doubt make for a spectacular view for the many people who will attend and create a fantastic community spirit along the munster blackwater river.

Light the Munster Blackwater River Gathering

Dear Friends,

It is our objective to have local sports, children’s and community groups on the evening of the Summer Solstice, 21st June, 2013, to arrange an event and invite friends and relatives old and new to the banks of the Blackwater Valley throughout the counties of Kerry, Cork and Waterford where the river flows, to these events on the river that evening and “Light up the Munster Blackwater River”.

Our aim is to have an aerial picture of the various points on the ‘lit’ river i.e at around dusk you can light your area of the river with car lights, boat lights, lanterns, candles, torches and even a bonfire, just a few suggestions, to celebrate the longest day of the year and the communities along the Blackwater River and enjoy the occasion with BBQ’s, music, festivals etc.

We are in the process of organising a final meeting point at Youghal, where the river meets the ocean and we will update these plans as they unfold.

So on the 21st June 2013 please gather your family and friends, near and far, on the banks Munster Blackwater River as part of the Gathering 2013.

We enclose a proposal form for completion and returning to us or alternatively complete it online on our Facebook page so you can let us know your plans! We will post a list of the various events on Facebook and you can see what else is going on in your area.

So lets ‘Light the Munster Blackwater River’.
