Irish Veteran and Vintage Motorcyclists pass under the Clock Gate in Youghal, Co Cork as they travel around the coastal towns of Ireland during August 2013 supporting the charity VINCENTIAN LAY MISSIONARIES (VLM)
Since 2002 VLM has sent over 200 volunteers to Ethiopia. The All Ireland Vintage Motorbike Gathering has been a celebration of the work done by these volunteers, many of whom we met at locations all over Ireland.
The journey launched at the Church Restaurant , Mary’s Street Dublin 1 on Tuesday, August 13th, when the core group of bikers were waved off by RTÉ’s Mary Kennedy. Local bikers from the U.K joined the main body of the tour along the route, as well as local vintage motorcycle associations and classic car clubs.
A highlight of the event will be the descent of Glengesh Pass in Co. Donegal which will feature many bikers on the afternoon of Sunday 18th of August. This event will mark the centenary of a famous ascent of the Pass in 1913 by celebrated motor cyclists of the time.
We hope that this event will raise much needed funds for VLM’s work in Ethiopia. If you are a past volunteer, a regular VLM supporter or have attended our Gala Ball over the past few years come out and support the Bike Gathering!
