Call me Ishmael…..one of the most famous opening lines in literature will open an exciting new theatrical adaptation of Herman Melville’s MOBY DICK touring Ireland this year, a one man performance by Conor Lovett.

Conor Lovett, directed by Judy Hegarty Lovett, will perform a new adaptation of MOBY DICK in a Gare St Lazare Players production touring 28 Irish venues in April and May 2009. In a tribute to the great film version by director John Huston the show will have it’s premiere at The Mall Arts Centre, Youghal Co. Cork which served as the location for New Bedford in the 1956 movie MOBY DICK starring Gregory Peck. Considered by many to be the greatest American novel, MOBY DICK follows the exploits of Captain Ahab on his journey of revenge against the great white whale Moby Dick as told by the young adventurer Ishmael who signs up on Ahab’s ship ‘The Pequod’. One of Ireland’s best known touring theatre companies, Gare St Lazare Players are renowned for their Beckett prose productions such as Molloy and First Love.
