THE ANNUAL FRIENDS OF ST. RAPHAEL’S OPEN DAY took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday 24th June 2012. This is the 18th year of the fundraiser since it began back 1994 and is as popular as ever. Not only for the locals, it is a popular attraction for people from all over Munster and particular Cork City. Dave and Ellen Supple from San Francisco, USA, were there with their relatives Shane Supple and his family from Youghal. The new Mayor of Youghal Michelle Hennessy officially open the event.

The colourful event was packed with people, all in great mood, buying, chatting, eating, dancing on the grass and generally having a great time. The book stall was doing great business, the burger vans were surrounded, the candy floss was swaying in the warm breeze and the mugs of coffee were being downed at a very fast rate.

John Roche and Ellen O’Siochru manned the ‘Spin the Wheel’, Face painting proved to be particularly busy, Bric a Brac, Home made produce, Weigh the cake competition, Name the doll, Bouncy castle, Flower stalls all proved to be great hits, not to mention the 6 bands playing on the stage with Barty Murphy and Bobby Lee on hand.

The Friends of St Raphael’s Fundraising Committee are a very active committee who commenced making their arrangements and organisation back in February, working very hard to make sure that everything is just right for the day. The weather was beautiful, the live music was played brilliantly, Youghal Pipe Band did a wonderful set, neighbours met for chats and the residents of the hospital had a fantastic time.
