31/3/11 Under 16 Football Youghal  0-12  Na Piarsaigh 2 1-5
On Thursday 31st March Na Piarsaigh visited Club Aras to take on Youghal in Round 1 of the Premier 2 football league. The opening half was close encounter with both side’s kicking a number of wides. Danny Walsh in goals was steady throughout, Conor Finn, Chris Morrison and Chris Savage in the full back line held firm under pressure from the visiting team. Up Front Jordan Power, Ollie Dempsey, and Tomas Coleman kicked some good scores. The first half ended with our lads leading 6pts to 4pts.

The second half started with a new look Na Piarsaigh team which seemed to re-energize them, scoring 1-1. After 10 mins of the second half the switch of Cian Daly to midfield and Colin Keenaghan to center back helped both players to get more into the game, along with Ronan O’Sullivan at midfield who had another solid game. The last 15mins saw Youghal put the pressure on the visiting team lead by our attacking wing backs Matthew Farrell and Mark Flaherty. Aidan O’Neill, Andrew Joyce, and Jake Power in the corner worked hard and set up Ollie Dempsey and Tomas Coleman for well taken points. When Referee Denis O’Flynn blew the final whistle the score board read Youghal 0-12 Na Piarsaigh 1-5.

This was a good start to the league for the lads and next up is Midleton in Midleton on Tuesday 5th April. Team- D Walsh, C Savage, C Morrison, Conor Finn, Bill McGrath, Ronan O’Sullivan[Capt], M Farrell, C Keenaghan, C Daly, A Joyce[1], M Flaherty, K Ranson, T Coleman[5], Jordan Power[1], Ollie Dempsey[4].

05/4/11 Under 16 Football Youghal 0-8  Midleton 3-4

Tuesday 5th saw the U16 footballers travelled to Midleton to take on the home side in Round 2 of the League. Both teams gave it their all in a close encounter. Midleton raced into a commanding lead and were 2-1 to 0-1, up after 8mins. Cian Daly, Colin Keenaghan and Andrew Joyce worked hard and we got back into the game. In defense Chris Savage led the way with the help of Chris Morrison and Matthew Farrell we held Midleton scoreless for the rest of the half. Up Front Tomas Coleman scored two great points. Half time score Youghal 0-3 Midleton 2-1.

The second was only 2 mins old when we lost Tomas Coleman to injury. Mark Flaherty moved to full forward and along with Muiris De Paor and Ryan Coady in the corners caused the home defense problems. With 2mins left in the game and 1 point down the lads made one final move to get the winning score only to be denied by good defending by the home side that broke down the field to wrap up the game with a well taken goal.

Féile Peil Na nÓg 2011

Youghal G.A.A. will be participating in Féile Peil na nÓg 2011 which is being held here in Cork. Our Club is one of the 48 lucky Cork Clubs who are being offered a place in this prestigious event, which Cork are proud to host.  Féile Peil na nÓg is a national festival of Gaelic football for boys and girls under 14 years of age.  It was first held in Cavan in 1982, the brainchild of Fintan Tierney of Butlersbridge.  This weekend is happening on the 30th June, 1st & 2nd July

Féile Peil na nÓg places great emphasis and importance on proper participation, presentation, punctuality and sportsmanship.  Féile involves the whole community, clubs, schools, social and cultural groups, families, civic and religious authorities.  It is recognised by the GAA as a major festival of great importance for the promotion of football among the youth of our country.  Féile Peil na nÓg helps to bond communities, forge friendships, provide educational opportunities and unearth new leaders.

VHI Cúl Camps 2011

Our VHI Cúl Camp which is running over 5 days (15th – 19th of August) was launched on the 2nd of April last by Christy Cooney at Club Arás Youghal. There was a superb turnout for this event at Club Arás and a big thank you to all the media who were there on the day.  Joe Kirk co-ordinator spoke about the Vhi Cúl Camp which is now running over five days at a cost of 55 euros. Uachtarán Christy Cooney also spoke about the camp and launched the event.  Many thanks to Lisha Hogan of Galvin’s Costcutters for the fabulous cake for the launch.  The camp is now running over five days and this camp is one not be missed.  Registration has started since the 9th of April and last date for registration is the 15th of May.  Please book early to avoid disappointment as places will be signed up quickly.  Forms can be got from the club or you can download a form our website.  See launch photos also on the website.

Club Night Friday Next 1st April & Presentation of Cheque to St. Vincent De Paul

We presented St. Vincent De Paul with a cheque for €2,000 on Friday the 1st of April. The cheque was presented by Ken Dempsey main organiser of the event. This was in respect of the Charity Boxing and Club Fundraiser event held in the Club on the 18th of March last.  Thanks to all that helped out and contributed in anyway. A special words of thanks to all our sponsors and boxers on the night.  A big thank you to Kevin Walsh of St. Colman’s Boxing Club in Shanagarry for all his help, we would have been lost without it.  DVD of the night is now available for Sale at Club Arás for 15 euros.

Club Representatives on Cork U14 Teams

Congratulations to Chris Morrison who took part in the Cork U14 Development squad who played in Croke Park last Sunday at half time during the All-Ireland Football quarter final between Cork and Roscommon, and to Ollie Dempsey who played for Cork U14 hurlers on Saturday last against Dublin.

U14 Footballers Crowned East Cork Champions – Wednesday 3rd @ Castlemartyr

Congratulations to our U14 Footballers who defeated Fr. O’Neill’s last night (Aug 4th) on a scoreline of 5-9 to 1-8 to achieve the double after recently winning the hurling Championship. They will now meet Mayfield in the county 1/4 final on Aug 21st.
