Youghal Camogie Awards for 2011 took place last Friday night.  Youghal done well over the past 12 months in competition, both with Imokilly and County sections.U13 girls were runners up in the Imokilly A League and with the U18’s bringing home the U18 Championship County title last November was the highlight of the year.

Various awards were giving out to the Underage, with U8/U10/U12s awarded with Certificates and medals for the Cluster of Go Games Blitz’s, that went on over the east cork area over the summer months. Go Games is a new non-competitive league which caters for the age group from U12 down to players of 6 yrs of age.

U14 – Most Improved Player of the Year went to Eimear Farrell, with U14 – Most Dedicated Player of the Year was awarded to Sophie Monaghan. U16 – Most Improved went to Ellie Budds after having a great year with the U16s and U18 panels. U16 – Dedicated Player of the Year when to Shannen Bulman-Joyce another girl who shone in the U16 & U18 panels in 2011.

A number of the girls made the Cork Panels this year namely: Shona Cunningham for the Cork Intermediates, Leah Broderick – U16 Cork Panel, Emily Roche – U15 Cork Development Panel, Cork Primary Schools – Niamh Roche, Caitriona O Keeffe, Shauna O Connell, and Erin Galvin.

Great night had by all, with plenty of food from the generosity of the parents of the club, who have been great over the year with the support they show for the girls. Well done to all the trainers and mentors who give up a lot of their spare time to help train the teams. Underage training will begin shortly, keep you posted.

On Sunday 29th January the postponed U16 County League Hurling Final V Clonakilty took place in Cloughduv. This proved to be tough day for the lads having lost all momentum after winning the East Region league Final in November. Both teams tried their hardest but the game never got to championship pace. Clonakilty started the brighter and it took our lads 20mins to get going. Try as hard as we could we just never got into the game and Clonakilty ran out winners on a score line of 1-8 to 0-5.

Our Minor footballers got their season off to a winning start on Friday night last when they took on near neighbours Clashmore in a challenge. This was a positive start for the lads playing a nice attacking style. Faced with a strong Clashmore defence our forwards kicked some great scores with David O’Mahony, Dale Donoughe and Ordhan Brennan leading the way. David Twomey at midfield, Jason Murphy and Chris Savage in defence were solid throughout.

On Saturday our under 14 Footballers travelled away to play Canovee in the opening round of the football league. On a very wet day in Carrigadrohid with the bare 15 players available ( our thanks to Rory Mc Sweeney for coming along and making up the numbers ) we took to the field of play. Canovee had us under pressure right from the start. Our full back line all played well. The two Mc Sweeney brothers tried very hard. Aaron O Callaghan had a good second half at wing forward.

A special thanks to Catherine, David and Sandy for their time given in helping to drive the lad’s to Carrigadrohid. It was great to have their support on the day, encouraging and driving the team on, when all seemed against them including the weather.

Our Minor Footballers got their League campaign of to a winning start when they took on Castlelyons in Youghal on Tuesday last 7TH February. Missing a few players due to college and exams, the lads started brightly. Both sides were evenly matched in the first half. Up front David O’Mahony and Dale Donoghue were playing well. Jason Murphy and Chris Savage tried hard to keep the Castlelyons attack at bay. A spell of Indiscipline led to a number of silly frees which the visitors converted. With five minutes to go to the break Tomas Coleman scored a well taken goal after great work by David Twomey and Cillian Ansbro. The first half finished, Youghal 1-2 Castlelyons 0-7.

The second half saw Ronan O’Sullivan move to midfield and Lee McCarthy introduced at center back. Right from the throw in Youghal set about winning this game with a much improved attitude. Colin Keenaghan at center forward started to get on more ball and our midfield pairing dominated the center of the field which led to a better supply to the full forward line and after 7 minutes Andrew Joyce finished a great move to the back of the Castlelyons net. From there the lads controlled the game and ran out winners on a score line of Youghal 4-8 Castlelyons 1-7. Round 2 of the league see the lads travel to Blarney to take on the home side on 18th February.

Bag Packing in Tesco 4.02.12

Eochaill Og Notes – Report: Tony Farrell

 Eochail Og Awards Night 2012:  Eochaill Og in conjunction with the Ladies Football Club, held their awards night on the 22nd January last where winning teams from 2011 received their medals from one of the top Hurlers in the country Micheal Fennelly and Cork Ladies Football captain Amy O’Shea. On the night there was a great turnout of up to 350 club members and parents to honour the younger members of the club.
Guests on the night included Canon Brown, Ger Motherway, Christy Cooney, Micheal Fennelly, Amy O’Shea and Orla Farmer. MC for the night was Mick Sheehan who interviewed the guests and some of the players.

Both clubs would like to congratulate all the players and team mentors for their success in 2011 and wish them all the success possible for the coming season.

Eochaill Og would also like to congratulate all the players concerned for their awards received on the night on representing the club at both Imokilly and Cork underage level. We would hope that this level of representation of the club by the players continues and hopefully grows in 2012.

Awards Night
On Sunday 22nd we held a very successful awards night in conjunction with Eochaill Óg. Highlight of the night was the presentation to our U12s who won the East Cork double in 2011. Many thanks to Cork captain Amy O’Shea, team mate Orla Farmer and President CLG Christy Cooney for attending. Finally to our parents committee and all parents who provided sandwiches and cakes thank you.

Family Quiz
As part of our fund raising activities the Club will be a holding a Family Fun Quiz based on popular music, TV game shows and general knowledge. The format is based on a team of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) where around 60% of questions can be answered by the girls. The cost is €20 per team and we hope that most players and parents will attend on Sunday 26th February @ 5pm in Club Aras. If anyone has spare spot prizes to donate please contact Cormac Galvin. This should be a great evening’s entertainment with the format of the quiz quiet different from your standard table top quiz.

Peil Camp
We are very excited to this year host of very own “Peil” camp! This will take place in Youghal GAA club from Tuesday April 10th until Friday the 13th. This development camp will be run by Mr. Charlie Mc Loughlin, who has years of experience in running these Ladies Football camps for both Junveniles and adults. This will be a fantastic chance to learn from one of Irelands leading coaches of our sport and NOBODY will leave without learning some new skills!! The price of the camp will be €50 and will include a training kit. We will be holding an open day where YOU can enroll, a €25 deposit (non refundable) will be required on the day, the remaining balance can be paid in installments, more details to follow on this.  The open day will be on SATURDAY FEB 4th during training times.  For any more information, please feel free to contact Catriona on 086 1951128.  LETS GO YOUGHAL, LETS GO!!!

YLFC are busy getting ready for the 2012 season and held their first meeting of the year, where the year ahead was discused in detail. Our U14s are already back training as their league commences in the end of January. Our U12s & U14s will travel down to Kingdom to play Fingue in a challenge in what should be a great day out for all the girls, details to be announced once a date is secured. On the social side of the club we will be holding a Family Fun Quiz in Club Aras on Sunday February 27th @ 5pm where each team will consist of 2 adults and 2 children with questions based around pop music, TV games shows, movies etc. This should be a great evening’s entertainment for all and all are welcome.

Awards Night
In conjunction with Eochaill Óg we will be holding our 2011 awards night on Sunday 22nd January @ 5pm in Club Aras where the East Cork medals will be presented to our U10, U12 and U14 teams. Special guests will also be present on the night to meet the girls. Over the past few years this has proved to be a special night for all of our juvenile players where they receive their medals from inter county stars in front of family and friends. All welcome.
Juniors
A meeting for all adult players is scheduled for Thursday January 19th @ 7:30pm to discuss the year ahead. All players or any new players wishing to take up the sport are requested to attend.

2011 will hold many memories for all the members and supporters of the newly formed Youghal Ladies Football Club. After a very successful Gaelic4Girls Program which was run from September to November 2010 we became official on January 28th when the club was formed. In our inaugural season we fielded 5 teams, Junior, Gaelic4Mothers, U14, U12 & U10s with over 120 players with 40 adults either playing Junior or Gaelic4Mothers and over 80 juveniles aged 6 – 14 years olds. Highlights of the year was of U12s winning the East Cork League and championship which was beyond our wildest dreams when we started on this existing journey, our U14s taking part in the Féile and a fantastic day out in Croke Park when we took 30 girls to play on the hallowed turf.

Starting a club from scratch has not been easy. When your bank balance reads “zero” and you need everything from footballs to bibs. Our first fundraiser was a bag packing day in our local Supervalu which raised us enough money to buy one full set of jerseys. Our local Youghal GAA club have been very supportive of us allowing us to use their flood lit facility, their indoor hall and their pitch for training and matches. They also supplied us with a full set of jerseys for which we are very grateful. We look forward to a future of growing stronger together. Helping us to get off the ground the County Board could not have been more helpful with Ger Walsh on the end of the phone on a daily basis. He also helped us with equipment and courses. We also receive two full First Aid kits from Alison in Youghal Pharmacy which was a great help.

On the playing front our Juniors took part in the County league division 4 and lost out to Lisgoold in the championship. With every game you could see an improvement in their skill and positioning and their dedication to training has to be admired. With 1 year’s experience behind them all are waiting on 2012 for the action to recommence.

Gaelic 4 Mothers kicked off in April 2011 when we had over 25 women of all ages out on the field on a weekly basis all having the craic. The laughter could be heard all through the club with the result that some of the men were looking to train with us for a bit of fun! We were lucky enough to be chosen to play in Parnel Park at the interval of the All Ireland league finals this May, which was the highlight of the year for this dedicated group of mothers. During July they participated in the Munster 7 a-side blitz hosted by Clonakilty and by all accounts a great day was had by all.

Our juvenile teams had a very enjoyable year which the emphasis by all coaches being on improving the girl’s skills and giving all a run in every game. Officially we fielded U10s, U12s, U13s & U14s in the East Cork Leagues and championship. Our U10s lost out narrowly to Mayfield in the plate final. Our U12s won the East Cork double beating Midleton in both finals, while our U14s lost the championship final to near neighbours Inch Rovers. Highlight of the season for the U14 panel was participation in the Féile competition were we hosted Sean O’Heslins, the Leitrim county champions. A fantastic weekend was had by all with friendships been formed that will last for many a year to come. Our U10s & U8s also participated in blitzs hosted by Ballyphehane and Passage, many thanks to both clubs for fantastic day’s entertainment.

Youghal Ladies Football Club would like to thank all of it’s sponsors, coaches and mentors for giving generously of their time, both Cork & the East Cork Boards for all of their advice, support and encouragement in our first year and to all parents and supporters who really encourage the girls in every match.

Youghal GAA Club held its Annual General Meeting at Club Áras last Sunday evening ( Sunday 11th Dec 2011) with a very big attendance present.

The outgoing Chairman of the Club David Kilgannon thanked everyone who helped the club and himself over the previous 12 months and congratulated the players and selectors of all teams in the club at all grades.

Present was the Uachtaran Chumman Luthcleas Gael Crioistor O Cuanna who also spoke to the meeting encouraging everyone to support the club for the coming year. The President congratulated the Chairman of Youghal GAA clubs underage section Fergal Keenaghan and his committee and team of voulanters for their great work within the club and he singled out Youghal GAA’s Cul Camp as one of the most organised events in the country.

Cork County Board and Youghal GAA Club Culture Officer Liam O Laochdha echoed those sentiments and remarked that there will be two significant dates in March for the Uachtaran.

We also, at this time, remember all those associated with the club who have gone to their eternal reward. Former players, young and old, some unexpectedly, passed away during the year and we remember Pádraig Coyne, Tom Pomphrett, Donal O’Neill, Frank O’Brien. Recently, a great friend to many of us, Tony O’Connell, a man who did tremendous work for the club in maintaining fields and premises was called to his eternal reward and we remember him tonight also. To all members, supporters and families who suffered bereavements during the year, we extend our deepest sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-amanacha. Our annual Mass for deceased members and friends will be celebrated early in the New Year, as it was not permissible to do so tonight.

Club Áras continues to go from strength to strength under the hard work and guidance of Ken Bulman. The courtesy and commitment of Ken and all his staff has to be acknowledged by all and without his drive, the ‘buzz’ around the place would be missing. Special mention must also go to Deirdre McCarthy for the assistance she has given Ken and the time she has put into the club, particularly recently. Caroline Malone, who has just completed a three year FÁS term, is thanked too for the additional work she has put into the club when required. Special thanks also to Tony Kelly who puts in a lot of voluntary time in the club helping out. Our thanks to all who use the club facilities and we would ask members to think of supporting your club throughout the year when possible.

UNDER-AGE SECTION

To the hard working committee members, selectors and parents who look after our juvenile members, I would like to say a big thank you to the juvenile club officers, under the guidance of Cathaoirleach, Fergal Keenaghan, your trojan work is beginning to reap its rewards and the club are indebted to all of you for your efforts. Our juvenile club continues to go from strength to strength and the numerous titles won, at all grades, during the year is proof of this. The juvenile section of the club is in good hand and it will not be long before we see the fruits of their labour breaking into the adult club. Congratulations to all involved and best wishes for 2012.

2011 saw the official launch of Youghal Ladies Football club, under the guidance of Catriona Hill and Cormac Galvin. A young and vibrant club that will go from strength to strength no doubt and we wish them all the best for the future.

This branch of Gaelic Games continues to expand, due to the dedicated work of their club officers, committee and mentors. Congratulations are extended to them on their successes during the year and best wishes for 2012.

SCHOOLS

We would like to thank all the schools in the parish for their continued promotion of Gaelic Games throughout the year. To the teachers and principals thanks for allowing our coaches, Siobhán Downing, assisted by Shane Spillane, Daniel Mulcahy, and Ken Dempsey, the time to teach the skills of our national games to the young boys and girls. Also thanks to John Parker, who liaises with all schools and looks after gear etc., for the matches. Keep up the good work as the benefits are already there to see and a special thank you to Christy Cooney who donated Club Jerseys to our local National Schools.

FIRST AID

Thanks to all the various “physio teams” who looked after our injured players during the year. This year we had some serious injuries and it is good to see them all on the road to recovery. To Dr. Michael Twomey, who also gives his time and attention to our players, when asked to do so, we thank you sincerely.

REFEREES/UMPIRES/LINESMEN/HELPERS

The club currently has three registered Referees, in Shaun Oliphant, Jim Daly and Christy Hennessy. A directive, issued from Croke Park earlier this year, outlined that for insurance purposes and Official Referee must be appointed for all games, including challenge games. This might have made things difficult, but we would like to thank all three club referees who willingly gave of their time, free of charge during the year, when asked to referee challenge games and it is great to see, what has always been club policy in this regard still continuing. We would also like to acknowledge their willingness to referee schools games when requested.

To all who gave of their time in preparing teams, ie. jersey minding, water, hurleys etc., a big thank you to all. To the many people who provided refreshments for teams or after training sessions, a míle buíochas duit.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE

To all those who support and organise our various social activities, during the year, a big thank you. Special thanks to the Dinner Dance committee, who recently organised a wonderful night in the club.

Organising club events, particularly when our main hall is being used is an onerous task and we would appeal to club members to lend a hand when requested to do so. Thanks also to all members and friends who support all these activities.

Thanks to Liam Ó Laochdha for organising our participation in the Scór competitions during the year. Also, this year after a lot of persuading the club was represented on TG4’s “Ceist GAA le Hector” quiz show. Andrew Curtin and Keith McCarthy travelled to Co. Galway to participate on our behalf.

The club thanks Jerry Russell and his hardworking organising committee for keeping the golf classic going for another year. Fundraising at the present time is not the easiest and we would like to thank all who sponsored the prizes, tee boxes, etc., and those who took par in this valuable club fundraiser.

LOTTO/COUNTY BOARD DRAW/FINANCE PROJECT

A big thank you to all who are supporting our club Lotto, County Board Draw and our new Finance Project, all valuable fundraisers for the club.

The club has four dedicated lotto teams who take turns to run the lotto on Monday nights. We also have some volunteers who give a hand whenever they can. Thank you all for continuing with the smooth running of the lotto. Thanks to Shaun Oliphant who distributes and collects lotto books, from the various people and outlets, throughout the town and surrounding areas.

We would like to acknowledge and thank all the business in town for allowing our lotto to be sold on their premises and also those who buy and sell tickets.

The County Board draw currently has a membership of over 300 and we thank all who continue to sell and support this draw. Thanks also to Finbarr Coleman, of our Finance Committee, who co-ordinates this draw for us.

MEMBERSHIP/INSURANCE:

Membership registration with Croke Park is now an annual requirement, for insurance purposes and so that the Membership Cards can be issued by them. It is important that this is done early as possible in the year. We have a number of categories of membership and our club Registrar will be only too pleased to provide details on request.

CLUB SHOP

The club shop is getting bigger and it is great to see the children and adults now wearing our club colours around town with pride. Continued success to Catriona and Áine and thanks for your ongoing commitment to the shop.

MEDIA

Once again our local station Community Radio Youghal (CRY), continues to provide great coverage of the local matches. It is a great asset for those that may not be able to attend our games that they can keep up-to-date at all times. Thanks to Mick Sheehan, Mick Walsh and their co-commentators who provide the commentary for the games. Congratulations also the club PRO, Derek Kiely, for his award winning GAA show. We acknowledge also, the local Youghal News and the East Cork Journal for covering club games and activities.

WEB SITE/TEXT SERVICE

Thanks to Cormac Galvin who continues to provide the club with the now expected valuable messaging service. It is great that we can all get to know what is going on for the week with this great service. Cormac also keeps the web site updated and this is a valuable means of keeping up-to-date with club activities for those that have had to move from town. Thanks to all who contribute and provide information for these valuable services.

EMPLOYMENT/EMIGRATION

The country continues to be blighted by unemployment and emigration. Our own town and club have certainly not escaped from these dark times, and we must all hope that things might change soon. The club wishes all those who have gone away and those who are considering going all the best and we sincerely hope that some or all of you may be back sooner rather than later.

STRATEGIC REVIEW

Changes continue as part of the new plan that will be implemented with all clubs. The big changes for this year saw the launch of Coiste na nÓg, to run all juvenile matters from minor down, within the county. County leagues were also introduced for all divisional winners of adult competitions. A review of the year and plans for the future were spoken about at a recent County Board meeting. This club will have to implement further changes as they come on stream.

SOCIAL INITIATIVE & ORAL HISTORY PROJECTS

It was intended at the start work on this project during the past year. It is recommended that every club should become involved in running events which would be suitable for the older members of our community. It is an opportunity for every club to possibly involve people who would have played with our club but who no longer participate in club activities. A lot of these people, if they became involved again would offer valuable experience and knowledge that could only benefit our club.

45 DRIVE

This is a weekly social event that is proving very popular and we thank, Gene Fox, Maighréadh Ní Laochdha and Angeline Murphy, who organise the weekly game. Again more support from club members would be welcome each Tuesday night. It is a weekly event that could possibly be incorporated into the Social Initiative by the club.

Eochaill Óg, Youghal Ladies Football Club & Youghal Camogie Club would like to express their appreciation to the Mulcahy family & friends who generously donated €1000 to the juvenile clubs within Youghal GAA from proceeds generated from a golf classic run in the memory of Batty Mulcahy.

With over 300 children from the age of 5 to 18 participating in gaelic games weekly any assistance in the day to day running of these teams is always welcome. Equipment ranging from indoor hurleys, sliotars, footballs, bibs and cones were purchased which will be put to good use over the coming months. The presentation took place in Club Áras after our Saturday morning training where Chairpersons were presented with their new equipment by Batty’s family members.

Congratulations to our U12 Girls Footballers who won the East Cork Championship Final after defeating Midleton in a fantastic game of football thus completing the double afte earlier in the season they won the league. After collecting the cup a convey of players, parents & supporter drove through the town in convey with flags flying high and car horns blaring to celebrate their success. Afterwards they convened to Club Aras for refreshments kindly donated by Harrington Bakery, Rotisserie Sam and parents. The Club would like to thank all who sponsored this after match party.

Commiserations to our U14 Girls lost the East Cork final against near neighbours Inch. In what a great first year for this group we are hopeful success won’t be to far away in the future. Many thanks to Michael Landers of Doyles Restauants and Michael Farrell of Farrell’s Summerfield Bar for providing refreshments and minerals afterwards.

Our U10 Girls play Mayfield in the East Cork League Final in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 29th @ 10:30am. All support welcome. Lets go Youghal Girls Lets go!!!

YOUGHAL is awash with Maroon and Yellow ahead of this Sunday’s Cork County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Final. The build up has had to be pretty quick with just an eight day window between last Saturday evenings semi final replay victory over Newcestown at Pairc Ui Rinn.

But the whirlwind effect of Youghal’s appearance in the final and the possibility of winning the championship for the first time since 1993 and the possibility of Senior Hurling returning to the town has stoked the fires of excitement, hope and above all the belief that it is our time to shine again.
With all these hopes brings all types of pressure on the nerves, but they are good nerves and when Peter Queally’s men take to the field at Pairc Ui Rinn this Sunday the 9th of October at 3.45pm, history is on the line and the town will cheer on the Youghal Boys with all their heart.

Businesses and shops and the general Community have been getting behind the Youghal team in their own way. An Post, AIB, Cree’s, Sport and Leisure, the Charity Shop, Sean Twomey’s Butchers, Fergal Cullinanes and Absolute Flowers are an example of the effort people are making to show their support.

The Youghal Club are not finished there, they still want people to show their colours and fly the flag for Youghal. More bunting will stream the Main Street of the town and watch out for strategic flag placements like Tyntes Castle, The Clock Gate and The Town Hall. Keep it going Lads “Up the Youghal Boys’

31/3/11 Under 16 Football Youghal  0-12  Na Piarsaigh 2 1-5
On Thursday 31st March Na Piarsaigh visited Club Aras to take on Youghal in Round 1 of the Premier 2 football league. The opening half was close encounter with both side’s kicking a number of wides. Danny Walsh in goals was steady throughout, Conor Finn, Chris Morrison and Chris Savage in the full back line held firm under pressure from the visiting team. Up Front Jordan Power, Ollie Dempsey, and Tomas Coleman kicked some good scores. The first half ended with our lads leading 6pts to 4pts.

The second half started with a new look Na Piarsaigh team which seemed to re-energize them, scoring 1-1. After 10 mins of the second half the switch of Cian Daly to midfield and Colin Keenaghan to center back helped both players to get more into the game, along with Ronan O’Sullivan at midfield who had another solid game. The last 15mins saw Youghal put the pressure on the visiting team lead by our attacking wing backs Matthew Farrell and Mark Flaherty. Aidan O’Neill, Andrew Joyce, and Jake Power in the corner worked hard and set up Ollie Dempsey and Tomas Coleman for well taken points. When Referee Denis O’Flynn blew the final whistle the score board read Youghal 0-12 Na Piarsaigh 1-5.

This was a good start to the league for the lads and next up is Midleton in Midleton on Tuesday 5th April. Team- D Walsh, C Savage, C Morrison, Conor Finn, Bill McGrath, Ronan O’Sullivan[Capt], M Farrell, C Keenaghan, C Daly, A Joyce[1], M Flaherty, K Ranson, T Coleman[5], Jordan Power[1], Ollie Dempsey[4].

05/4/11 Under 16 Football Youghal 0-8  Midleton 3-4

Tuesday 5th saw the U16 footballers travelled to Midleton to take on the home side in Round 2 of the League. Both teams gave it their all in a close encounter. Midleton raced into a commanding lead and were 2-1 to 0-1, up after 8mins. Cian Daly, Colin Keenaghan and Andrew Joyce worked hard and we got back into the game. In defense Chris Savage led the way with the help of Chris Morrison and Matthew Farrell we held Midleton scoreless for the rest of the half. Up Front Tomas Coleman scored two great points. Half time score Youghal 0-3 Midleton 2-1.

The second was only 2 mins old when we lost Tomas Coleman to injury. Mark Flaherty moved to full forward and along with Muiris De Paor and Ryan Coady in the corners caused the home defense problems. With 2mins left in the game and 1 point down the lads made one final move to get the winning score only to be denied by good defending by the home side that broke down the field to wrap up the game with a well taken goal.

Féile Peil Na nÓg 2011

Youghal G.A.A. will be participating in Féile Peil na nÓg 2011 which is being held here in Cork. Our Club is one of the 48 lucky Cork Clubs who are being offered a place in this prestigious event, which Cork are proud to host.  Féile Peil na nÓg is a national festival of Gaelic football for boys and girls under 14 years of age.  It was first held in Cavan in 1982, the brainchild of Fintan Tierney of Butlersbridge.  This weekend is happening on the 30th June, 1st & 2nd July

Féile Peil na nÓg places great emphasis and importance on proper participation, presentation, punctuality and sportsmanship.  Féile involves the whole community, clubs, schools, social and cultural groups, families, civic and religious authorities.  It is recognised by the GAA as a major festival of great importance for the promotion of football among the youth of our country.  Féile Peil na nÓg helps to bond communities, forge friendships, provide educational opportunities and unearth new leaders.

VHI Cúl Camps 2011

Our VHI Cúl Camp which is running over 5 days (15th – 19th of August) was launched on the 2nd of April last by Christy Cooney at Club Arás Youghal. There was a superb turnout for this event at Club Arás and a big thank you to all the media who were there on the day.  Joe Kirk co-ordinator spoke about the Vhi Cúl Camp which is now running over five days at a cost of 55 euros. Uachtarán Christy Cooney also spoke about the camp and launched the event.  Many thanks to Lisha Hogan of Galvin’s Costcutters for the fabulous cake for the launch.  The camp is now running over five days and this camp is one not be missed.  Registration has started since the 9th of April and last date for registration is the 15th of May.  Please book early to avoid disappointment as places will be signed up quickly.  Forms can be got from the club or you can download a form our website.  See launch photos also on the website.

Club Night Friday Next 1st April & Presentation of Cheque to St. Vincent De Paul

We presented St. Vincent De Paul with a cheque for €2,000 on Friday the 1st of April. The cheque was presented by Ken Dempsey main organiser of the event. This was in respect of the Charity Boxing and Club Fundraiser event held in the Club on the 18th of March last.  Thanks to all that helped out and contributed in anyway. A special words of thanks to all our sponsors and boxers on the night.  A big thank you to Kevin Walsh of St. Colman’s Boxing Club in Shanagarry for all his help, we would have been lost without it.  DVD of the night is now available for Sale at Club Arás for 15 euros.
