MARCH The 10th will a historic day for Youghal GAA Club as it prepares a night of homage and celebration where the Uachtarán Cumann Luthcleas Gael, Críostóir Ó Cuana will be invited along to the club with his good wife Ann for a night of celebration.

There will be a reception at 7.30pm at Club Áras where invited guests along with club members and everyone from the Community of Youghal are invited along to enjoy a night with the President of the GAA Christy Cooney.

The most important message that Youghal GAA want to send out in relation to this event is that the night is open for everyone to attend, not just GAA people, everyone in the Youghal and surrounding areas is invited along.

There will be guest speakers on the evening including Páiraic Duffy, Ard Stiúthoír CLG (Director General of the GAA) Joan O’Flynn, President of the Camogie Association, Secretary/Administrator of the Cork County Board Frank Murphy, Willie Ring and former Chairman of the Munster Council Jimmy O’Gorman.

The Master of Ceremonies on the evening will be the popular Mick Sheehan who will have a questions and answer session with several local members including John Parker.

Comhaltas will also perform on the night as well as some of the clubs under age members will also welcome the President with song, so the atmosphere will be perfect for the night.

Another highlight of the evening will be when Christy’s brother Brendan will address the crowd, so it will be great to hear the feelings of the Cooney family.

All in this should be a fantastic occasion for the Youghal club and for the Youghal and the surrounding areas and their Communities. The evening is an adult only affair and there will be refreshments served after the speeches.

It will certainly be a night when the most influential people in the GAA will be together under one roof and the people that Christy grew up with, his family and friends will be together to pay tribute to the man and the President Christy Cooney in their own special way.

Official Launch of ‘An Illustrated History of the GAA in East Cork 1924 – 2010′

Launched by Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael Críostóir Ó Cuana at Midleton GAA Club, Wednesday the 30th of November at 8pm.

This eagerly awaited new book has captured the memories, the moments, the history and the images of over eight decades of Junior matches; the characters and the people that have made such wonderful contributions to the GAA in East Cork, Cork County and at national and international level.

‘An Illustrated History of the GAA in East Cork 1924-2010′ beautifully captures the very essence of the championship matches, the associations and the friendships built up over the eight-seven years since the formation of the East Cork Board.

Guests of honour on this historic night for the Imokilly Division will be Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Críostóir Ó Cuana, Joan O’Flynn, President of the Camogie Association, Jerry O’Sullivan, Chairman of the Cork County Board, who all hail from the East Cork Division. Michael O’Brien, Chairman of the East Cork Board and of course the author of this great publication, Tom Morrison, will also speak on the night.

“An Illustrated History of the GAA in East Cork 1924 – 2010” is an encyclopedia of historic facts and accounts from the Imokilly Division; it is a reference book of the highest possible standard and it is a book that every Gael will want to have in their collection of GAA memorabilia.
