I am organising a fundraiser in aid of Cork Dog Action Welfare Group Jan 21st Youghal G.A.A. Club “Gigi’s The Sequel”… and would be very obliged if you could put the ad on YoughalOnline.com. Cork DAWG is an organisation founded and run mostly by a network of volunteers concerned with the welfare of abandoned, abused and ill-treated dogs in Cork.
Through our collective experience we aim to improve the lives of Cork’s dogs and also endeavour to educate the public on dog welfare and dog ownership. To do this, we need your help….
Music starts @ 10pm from local band the Void (Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol kind of music) and then DJ with DJ Mossie from 12 ’til late… (Original Gigi’s DJ)
Great spot prizes to be won on the night also….
Tickets on sale in Xtra Vision Youghal from Monday January 9th and are €10 per person. Over 18′s.
It is a great cause and I hope to raise a good bit of money for them as the group who have a shop in Midleton and a sanctuary in Ballinagree Macroom. They do endless work of re homing stray and lost dogs and re-uniting pets with owners and never turn an animal away.
Also if any local business would like to donate a spot prize please ask them to contact me in marietrihy21@yahoo.ie/

THE 4TH YOUGHAL ARTS NETWORK MIDSUMMER’S GALA BALL held in the bedroom of the Walter Raleigh Hotel on Saturday 18th of June 2011 – Pics: www.youghalonline.com
One of the highlights of Youghal’s social calendar is the popular and enjoyable Youghal Arts Network Midsummer’s Gala ball. This year the Gala Ball was held in the ballroom of the Walter Raleigh Hotel where the fabulous Swingin’ Blue Cats will took to the stage to play a selection of jive, jazz and swing dance numbers to get the crowd in the mood. Everyone had a great time and this year’s Midsummer Ball proved to be the most successful and enjoyable in the new venue.
Blue Cats, Buffet and Black Ties at Youghal Arts Network Midsummer Gala Ball

The 4th Youghal Arts Network Gala Midsummer Ball was held this year in the spacious ballroom of the Walter Raleigh Hotel, which was specially decorated for the occasion. On entering, one could be persuaded into thinking they had stepped into a Viennese Waltz. The lighting was soft and subdued, candles twinkled, tableware sparkled, and the guests were attired in formal evening wear which stunned. Organised as a Black Tie event, the gents looked better than any James Bond movie, but the ladies were to be lauded on their magnificent evening dresses in all colours and styles which were absolutely stunning, and which gave an atmosphere of enjoyment and a fabulous ambience.
At 9pm, a superb buffet was served and background music played while the guests wined and dined.
At 10pm the mood swung when The Swinging Blue Cats 6 piece band crashed into place with their own brand of jive, jazz and swing numbers which got the crowd up and moving onto the dance floor.
Midnight brought the attention of the twinkle toes to the Auction and Raffle which took place. The Auction included a painting by local artist, Paul Daly, of the Vermeer “Girl with Pearl Earring”, and the reserve was far exceeded as the painting was sold for a massive €175. Superb prizes were sponsored for the Raffle, and 0 Donacha O’ Cearuill told The East Cork Journal that they were indebted to Paul Daly, local businesses and all the sponsors for their generosity to the Youghal Arts Network. ‘Without our sponsors’, Donacha continued, ‘we would not be able to put on such a wonderful fundraising event. All monies raised from this event each year, Donacha confirmed, are ploughed back into the local community to fund various art projects in the town for the following year”.
Not finished yet, at 12.30am Warren Tivy made his appearance on stage and continued with music to suit everyone, keeping the guests entertained until 2.30am when, very reluctantly, they finally accepted that it was time to go home ‘after the (Gala) ball was over’.

‘Weenie’! features gamblers, chancers, baters, lovers, Teddy-boys and Teenie- boppers, singers, dancers and a dead Cat!
It is a story of the innocence and hidden strength of ‘little’ people at a head-spinning turning-point for us all – the sixties, when we first began to ask the question we’re still asking now: ‘What’s happenin’ man’?
But most of all, it is a hilarious and heart-warming love-story. Then, as now, all anyone ever wanted was a happy ending. In ‘Weenie’! – in an explosive, hand-clapping, toe-tapping finale – we get it!
‘Weenie’! with original songs and parodies is written by local man, Finbar Hannon. It is his first play. Finbar is an accomplished stage and musical director. He has many shows to his credit, including ‘The Communication Cord’, ‘Many Young Men of Twenty’, ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Oklahoma’, ‘Annie’, ‘South Pacific’, ‘Some Enchanted Evening’, ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’.
As an actor, he has won Best Actor Award at the All Ireland Drama Festival, played leading roles with Everyman Theatre and guested with The Abbey Touring Company.
Among his fondest memories are those of Youghal Choral Society, when they won premier awards at festivals throughout the country, including a two-in- a-row at the Cork Choral festival.
He is currently musical and stage director for ‘Harmony’, which is dedicated to the further development of singing and acting talent in the community. ‘Harmony’ is an entirely voluntary and open group and new members are always very welcome. It doesn’t ask for financial assistance from the already hard-pressed local community – it is self-supporting. ‘Harmony’s’ shows are always to a very high standard and thoroughly enjoyable. Among it’s many successes are ‘Many Young Men of Twenty’, ‘Some Enchanted Evening’, ‘From Here to Broadway’, ‘A tribute to John B & Showtime’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’, along with various recitals, concerts and Christmas Shows.
This year ‘Harmony’ is presenting adaptable set units, along with a stage extension and steps unit – all expertly constructed, free of charge, by Jimmy and Maurice Flanagan – to the Mall Arts Centre, for use by other local and visiting groups, with a big kiss and a Happy Christmas!
Don’t forget: ‘Weenie’!, Mall Arts Centre, Mon – Thurs, 6th to 9th Dec. 8pm. Adults €12, Children €10. Book at Cree’s Card Shop 024 93899 or pay at the door. Don’t miss it!

The Youghal Arts Network are a very active group of people who, among other things, organise fund raising events to help voluntary clubs, organisations, groups, schools etc., in the town of Youghal who are in need of financial help.
South Abbey National School is a very old building which is school to as many children as it can possibly hold. It is a proud school with a long history in the town. Originally a Church, the School was set up in the premises in 1886. Thus, there are massive expenses involved in keeping this beautiful building maintained and suitable for the children of the school.
