THE 8TH ANNUAL ANTIQUE FAIR AND ROAD SHOW in aid of the Lourdes Invalid Fund took place on Sunday April 3rd (Mothers Day) at the Walter Raleigh Hotel, Youghal. The late Mary Neville, of Neville’s Drapery, Youghal, who passed away at a young age two years ago, established the event. It is now being overseen by her family and friends. The antique fair raises money to help the Cloyne Diocesan Pilgrimage to send local pilgrims to Lourdes each June.

About ten dealers from throughout Munster appraised household items, including crockery, jewellery, coins, old bank notes, books and even furniture. Antique dealer Nicholas Loughnan from Loughnan Antiques, South Main St was on hand to give his expert valuation on items that people had found hidden in their attic or sitting around the house. This annual fundraiser has proven to be an enjoyable event for all age groups, while raising much need funds to send the sick and invalids from the locality, on the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes, a time treasured by all for the peace and wellness it affords them.

The Walter Raleigh Hotel was the venue for a very special Fashion Show on Tuesday 23rd of March. The Show featured the wonderful array of fashion available at Touch of Class, Youghal and all profit on the night was donated to the local branch of Casa. Photo: Michael Hussey www.youghalonline.com

Local boutique owners Tess and Teresa O’Brien were most professional in their approach to the staging of the event having had many years of practice as it has been staged for many local charities over the past 15 years. The very large attendance were most appreciative of the night’s entertainment and were loud in their praise of all concerned.

Casa has been in Youghal for the past 27 years. it is a national organisation which seeks to develop relationships between able-bodied people and people with special needs through socials, outings etc. Casa also brings sick people to Lourdes and many people from Youghal and the surrounding areas have travelled to Lourdes with Casa over the 27 years of its existence.
Funding all of these activities is very costly, (although helpers pay their own way) so Youghal Casa was extremely grateful to all at Touch of Class for this wonderful injection of funds which allows us to spend less time fundraising and more time doing what we do best, spending time with our very special friends in Casa.
The group would also like to thank the very kind businesses who, even in these difficult financial times, sponsored some very generous prizes for the raffle.
There were over 450 in attendance on the night and a fabulous array of colours & styles were modeled by Illusive Pro Co. Touch of Class is 15 years in business this year. This season, Tess & Teresa have introduced exciting new labels, Expresso, Kate Cooper and CoCoMenthe. Touch of Class stocks sizes 10 to 18 and has a wide variety of labels on offer.

If It’s Mother’s Day Its Antique Time…
Some parents may feel disquiet over the synchrony but next Mother’s Day (Sunday Mar 14th) coincides with an antique fair at Youghal’s Walter Raleigh Hotel. Up to a dozen dealers from throughout Munster are expected to attend and will gladly appraise household items, including crockery, jewellery, coins, books and even furniture. By Christy Parker

The annual fair is held on behalf of Cloyne Diocese’s Lourdes Invalid Fund and this year marks its seventh occurrence. The late Mary Neville, of Neville’s Drapery and who passed away at a young age twelve months ago, established the event. It is now being overseen by her family and friends. The fair has raised approximately €40,000 over the year, helping the Cloyne Diocesan Pilgrimage to send local pilgrims to Lourdes each June.
Admission is €3 on the door or in advance, with the profits helping to send pilgrims from the diocese to Lourdes next June. Each admission fee qualifies for a draw in which a hamper from Scott’s gift & treasure shop and a €100 dinner voucher for the world-renowned Ahern’s Seafood Restaurant are the prizes. All that and you might even get your mother evaluated!
Doors open 11am-7pm. Inquiries from Ann on 087-7638062.
