AT OUR RECENT A.G.M. Mike O’ Neill, chairman of the Hall Committee since it began in 2003 stepped down. Tributes were paid to his leadership skills, foresight, dedication and professionalism. The new Chairman James Tobin, thanked the Committee for electing him and said it was an honour for him to take the position. He thanked Mike for his Chairmanship and for the professional manner in which he conducted it. The Parish owed Mike O’ Neill a debt of gratitude in the way he brought the Committee together and built and completed the Hall. We now have a hub where we as a very rural Community can come together and enhance the quality of our lives. The culmination of the whole project was of course the recognition given to our Community in winning the Pride of Place award; plans are underway to celebrate this with a function, more details later.

“An Evening of Fashion, Style & Entertainment” was held in the KGK Hall in Knockanore on Friday ( April 8th 2011) to a capacity audience. This night was organised and hosted by Colour, Style & Image Coach – Paula Goulding. Paula from Riverdance fame, RTE’s Celebrity Jigs n’ Reels, Dancing thru the Ages and most recently RTE’s Four Live. Over the past couple of weeks this fast became the hot ticket in town and not surprisingly with the elite line-up.

The evening commenced with a powerful ‘Aida’ number, ‘My Strongest Suit’ sung with the verve and range that this song calls for by Caroline Fraher.

The host, Paula recovering from a broken bone in her foot made her way to the stage to address the audience and introduce Pascal Scott (the familiar face of Sgt Dick O’ Toole from Killnaskully) as the patron for Leukaemia, Friends-of-Leukaemia-Patients-Cork to say a few words.

It went from one familiar face to another with her next introduction to the compére chair of Gerard Byrne (aka Malachy from ‘Fair City’). Gerard seemed to have the audience as much at ease as if they were in their own living rooms!

If style was what you were looking for then it was in abundance in the KGK Hall.. All of the outfits were specifically chosen for each model to suit their colours and their shape.  This wasn’t any regular fashion show.  The models, all colour and style clients of Paula’s gave their time and as Paula said “gave up their confidentiality agreement’ for the night! All hands were on deck to help raise money for the KGK and Leukaemia.

Boutiques showcasing on the night were; Touch of Class – Youghal, Signet – Dungarvan, Sheenas – Dungarvan, Chez de Paor – Lismore and Bijou Bridal – Tramore. There was the added help of haidresser, Cathy O’ Neill on the night who transformed the girls’ hair for the 2nd act.

There were demonstrations and tips from Paula herself who even got the crowd involved to check their ‘bone scale’ to help them depict what size accessories and patterns to wear.

The rhythm of this night didn’t dip once with performances from The On Your Toes Dance Academy, Clonmel, Caroline Fraher as vocalist for the evening and what a finale from Dancing Thru The Ages. Their ‘Smooth Criminal’ number, innovative yet innately Irish in style ended the night on a high note.

The stops really were pulled out for this fundraising night.  Top class entertainment and in a top class facility in the KGK Hall in Knockanore. “I may just sleep for a week after this” Paula joked but this was a night well worth the preparation that went into it.

Paula would like to thank all involved in the night and especially the KGK committee for all of their help. “Also thank you to the beautiful models, the stage manager for the night, Mark fitzgerald. Mark O’Brien, Gerard Byrne, all of the performers, Mum(Jennifer) and to everybody who came out and supported”.

This night will be brought to you by our own well-known, Paula Goulding.
Paula from Riverdance fame, ‘Dancing Thru’ The Ages’, RTE’s Celebrity Jigs n’ Reels and now Colour & Style expert with RTE is hosting this unique night in aid of KGK Hall and Leukaemia.

The evening is not quite a fashion show but a fashion event with a twist. There will be style sections where Paula will be explaining about different body-types, key tips and advice for dressing for your shape. Colours to suit and demonstrations on how dressing in your correct colours and styles can make such a difference.
“I want this night to be more informative for the audience so that by sitting back and enjoying the evening they can also pick up some really helpful tips.”

The entertainment line-up for the night makes the evening a coveted one. Vocalist Caroline Fraher will be lending her talents. British and All Ireland dance champions from the ‘On Your Toes Academy’, Clonmel will most certainly be a crowd pleaser. There will be excerpts from the hit show, ‘Dancing Thru The Ages’. To top it off the compere for the event is Gerard Byrne; aka Malachy from ‘Fair City’ and that’s just a flavour!

“When I called people about being involved in the night the response was overwhelming and so reassuring. We have such a good value system in this country and in our area. People are so supportive and helpful, it’s really been a joy organizing this event. I am so excited about our entertainment, the audience will be kept on their toes! I am also over the moon to have Gerard as our compere!”

The money raised from the night is going to KGK Hall and Leukaemia (Friends-of-Leukaemia-Patients, Cork).
“Unfortunately our family suffered loss recently to leukaemia so that among the obvious reasons of every charity being deserving is why I chose to raise much needed funds for leukaemia.
Also to give back to my community. They are so dedicated and have done absolute trojan work for our parish. The facility that we can now boast about, the KGK Hall is a testament to the Committee and community that put blood, sweat and tears into getting it from a dream to a reality.”

There will be top boutiques showcasing such as;  Sheenas – Dungarvan, Signet – Dungarvan, Touch of Class – Youghal, Bijou Bridal – Tramore and more from the surrounding areas.
This has all the makings of a spectacular night and something a little different.
“I think the night will be a real treat for the audience.”
