ON FRIDAY JULY 6TH 2012, Michael Lee, Officer in charge of the Youghal Coast Guard and Seamus Mason, Youghal RNLI, station mechanic, attended a garden party held in the private grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin. The party was hosted by President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina, to acknowledge the vital work of the front line emergency services.

This was a great honour for both men, not just to represent the Youghal Coast Guard and Youghal RNLI teams, but also our local communities. The party was very enjoyable and was also attended by members of the other services, including the Fire Brigade, Ambulance service, and Gardai.

We are delighted to announce that President Michael D Higgins has accepted our invitation to attend the LMF Schools Opera Education/audience development performance this June Bank Holiday weekend. Great for the festival, the town and the school children who will be attending their first opera in the stunning surroundings of Lismore Castle. They are in for a treat with our new production of Rossini’s Barber of Seville.

The 3rd annual Lismore Music Festival, funded by the Arts Council, will take place in the stunning surroundings of Lismore Castle on 2nd and 3rd June 2012. This years expanded programme of events includes two performances of Rossini’s popular opera The Barber of Seville featuring Puerto Rican Tenor, Javier Abrue, Turkish born Soprano Pervin Chakar, irish singers Owen Gillhooly, Gerard O’Connor, Mark Duff, American Baritone Damon Nestor Ploumis and Sandra Oman in the converted stables of Lismore Castle.

Brendan Cooney, President of the Youghal C.Y.M.S. presents the Youghal CYMS Jack Trihy Memorial Billiards Cup 2011 to winner Adrian Landers with runner-up Gerard Kelly at the society’s premises in Market Sq. Youghal. The final was played on Thursday evening 5th May 2011at the society’s premises in Market Sq. in front of a large audience. Landers beat Kelly in a final score of 200 points to 196 in a close fought battle of excellent billiards.
