THE YOUGHAL RNLI LIFEBOAT was launched on Sunday 27th November at 4.40pm, to a report of a 5 meter Bayliner suffering engine failure off Youghal Bridge. The Youghal Lifeboat Patricia Jennings under the helm of John Griffin Jnr with crew members Liam Keogh and Joe Moore arrived on scene and towed the vessel and its occupants to the Ferry point where they then handed over to the Youghal Coast guard.  The weather was calm and flat.

THE YOUGHAL RNLI LIFEBOAT was launched on Sunday 23rd October at 5.50pm, to a report of a 5 meter open boat that was adrift off Youghal Bridge.

The Youghal Lifeboat Patricia Jennings under the helm of David Slattery with crew members John Griffin Jnr and Martin Morris arrived on scene and transferred a crew member on board the boat to attach a tow line. They then towed the boat to a safe mooring near Youghal Bridge. While securing the boat to the moorings they received a second call that another boat had broken its moorings at Buttimers Dock Youghal.

The Lifeboat assisted and handed over to the Youghal Coast Guard, who secured the boat to its moorings. The weather was blowing winds of force 7 gusting to strong gale force 9, with sea levels up to 1.5 metres and heavy rain.

THE YOUGHAL RNLI LIFEBOAT was launched on Sunday 11th September at 2pm to a report of a small dingy that was attempting to row to a moored boat off the Ferry Point, Youghal, with two casualties on board. It was being swept up the Youghal harbour by strong winds and the filling tide and was unable to return to shore.

The Youghal Lifeboat under the helm of David Slattery along with crew members Martin Morris and Ray Kelly were quickly on the scene and towed the vessel along with its two causalities, a father and son who were both wearing life jackets safely to shore.  The weather was blowing a force 4 south easterly winds.

Congratulations to Liam Coveney on his retirement from the Youghal R.N.L.I. Liam’s dedication to saving lives at sea goes back to 1983 and he has been with the R.N.L.I. ever since.

 Youghal’s Lifeboat Station is one of the oldest stations in Ireland as it dates back to 1839. The first lifeboat was funded by Youghal’s townspeople at a cost of £76 to build and put into service. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (R.N.L.I) took over the running of Youghal’s Lifeboat in 1857.

Today, the station operates one of the fastest and most modern lifeboats in the RNLI’s fleet, The Atlantic 75 Class lifeboat. This boat is a rigid inflatable, 7.5 metres in length, carries a crew of  three and can reach a top speed of 32 knots. This lifeboat is named the Patricia Jennings and this new boat has only been on station at Youghal since September 2002.

The lifeboat volunteers who crew the boat and manage the station are proud of their station and record.

THE YOUGHAL RNLI LIFEBOAT was launched on Tuesday 9th Aug at 11.32am to a report of an 8 meter local fishing vessel that had broken down 4 miles south east of Youghal Lighthouse.  It was a calm sunny day and the Youghal Lifeboat under the helm of John Griffin Jnr, crew members Ellen Danagher and Liam Keogh arrived on scene, established a tow and brought the fishing vessel with two persons on board back to the Youghal quayside.

Youghal R.N.L.I. Flag Day on Friday 15th and Saturday 16 July.

Youghal RNLI Lifeboat was launched on Saturday the 11th of Sept at 11.58 to a 28ft pleasure boat that was on fire 3.4 miles east of Caple Island with one person onboard.

When the Lifeboat arrived on scene the casualty had been transferred a local fishing vessel that was close by and was taken ashore to awaiting Lifeboat and HSE first aiders and Paramedics.  The Youghal Lifeboat under the helm of David Slattery and crew members John Griffen Jr and Martin Morris stood by the boat and maintained a safety area around the burning vessel as it was believed there were gas cylinders on board.  Fortunately the casualty was not injured but the boat later sank.

And again at 16.15 to a report of a sailing dinghy with two 14 years old girls onboard that had got into difficulty off Ardmore head.  The Youghal Lifeboat under the helm of John Innes and crew members John Griffen Jr and Erik Brooks rescued the casualties from the water and assessed them to be hypothermic. The Waterford Irish based Coast Guard Helicopter was also on scene and due to the condition of the casualties RNLI helmsman John Innes decided  to  transferred them to the helicopter where they were taken to Waterford to an awaiting ambulance and taken to hospital where they were later released safe and well.  The Youghal Lifeboat recovered the dingy and returned it to Ardmore.

Youghal RNLI Lifeboat Called To Pleasure Craft – Sunday 12th Sept 2010
The Youghal Lifeboat’s pagers went off for the third time this weekend this time to the aid of a 28ft pleasure craft that was experiencing engine failure 4.5 miles south east of Youghal Lighthouse.  There were two people on board.  Youghal Lifeboat under the helm of John Innes and crew members Thomas Cliffe and Eddie Hennessy arrived on scene and established a tow. The Lifeboat towed the vessel safely back to it’s moorings in the Youghal bay area and the lifeboat returned to station.
