The Red Store Is Happy To Host!

Happy To Host! Three simple words, but a phrase that really sums up what the Red Store is all about.  Having opened its doors back in 1999, this bar and restaurant has grown to be a vital part of life in Youghal and the place prides itself on a relaxed, neighbourhood vibe and freshly prepared food.

Upstairs, the function room has just had a recent make over and the new décor gives a modern twist while retaining a feeling of comfort and intimacy. With a capacity for up to 70 people, it’s always a busy spot. It plays host to everything from family gatherings and parties, to anniversaries and girl’s nights, to corporate and training events.

Over the last 13 years in business proprietor Karen Farrell has shown true resilience to the challenges that have come her way.

“Our customers are the lifeblood of our business and we really appreciate the support they’ve shown us throughout the years.

“We believe that friendly personal service is at the heart of our venue and we aim to take the best care of our customers to ensure they get what they want to make their function or party a success. We’re only too delighted to adapt to their needs, from food and drink to decorations and entertainment,” commented Karen Farrell.

Whether it’s a casual buffet style menu or something more formal, the staff at the Red Store will help customers come up with the solutions.

Downstairs, the bar opens from 10:30am and has a mouth watering selection of home baking on offer, which is also available for take out. Food is served throughout the day from lunch through to dinner.

Top Chef

Local Chef John Delacour has just returned after 8 years at the famous Jacobs on the Mall restaurant in Cork, to add his culinary expertise to the offering at the Red Store.  Having spent many years away developing his cooking skills, he is a huge asset to have back in the town.

The new menus John has introduced showcase the best seasonal and local ingredients available and are sure to entice.  There are set menus for customers to choose from and for private functions, these can be easily developed to suit individual tastes and budgets.

Last year the Red Store won the coveted Gold Label Youghal Seafood Pie Award and this remains a winning dish with locals and visitors alike.

Another local man, John Phillips, has also joined the team as food and beverages manager.  Having spent nearly 7 years at the Quality Hotel in Redbarn, John’s experience and talents are sure to add to the customer experience at the Red Store

History In The Making

Family links to the Red Store go back much farther than just 1999.  The building was originally a grain store and has been in the Farrell family for over 100 years.  It retains many of the unique features including the large arched windows, high ceiling and much of the original brickwork.

“We love working in this building, not just because of the family history here, but also as it’s a great location,” said Karen.  We’ve created a place that people want to return to again and again for the delicious food, relaxed dining and friendly service.”

Local Business Local Life

With a staff of 20 people, the Red Store makes a significant economic contribution to the welfare of the town, but it doesn’t just stop there.

“We are dedicated to using local suppliers wherever we can. Our menu incorporates what’s best about local produce and in turn, our customers are guaranteed to receive the highest quality seasonal food.  It’s a win-win for everyone,” commented head chef, John Delacour.

Karen is not just a busy mum and business owner, but also has a passion for all that Youghal has to offer.  She is involved with the local Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce, and in particular gives a lot of her time to the Family Fun committee which in conjunction with Failte Ireland is promoting Youghal as a Family Fun Destination.

Summer is always a special time in Youghal.  There is a renewed energy and the onslaught of tourists and day trippers helps remind everyone that this really is a beautiful part of the world. When the sun shines, there is nothing better than to sit outdoors, sipping coffee and enjoying some food. The Courtyard at the Red Store is a fully covered heated area that is just perfect for a barbeque or to simply hang out and catch up with friends.

What’s On

The function room at The Red Store truly is a versatile spot with the Youghal Musical Society holding a night of Music to suit all tastes on Thursday 31st May.
