The new Cine Club got off to a great start and will continue to meet on a fortnightly basis (Thursdays) at 7.30 pm sharp in The Mall Arts Centre, Youghal.
YOUGHAL CINE CLUB had a great start to their new film season with almost a 100 members attending the screening of ‘The Way’ starring Martin Sheen. The new cine club was delighted to have a special guest on the night, Mr. Laurent Vuille, who is a friend of one of our members and had walked the camino from Switzerland to Santiago last year. Mr. Laurent Vuille very kindly offered to say a few words and answer questions after the show. He also had a display of some interesting photographs he had taken while traveling the “El camino de Santiago,” during his pilgrimage. It was s a wonderful start to the season and all in the true spirit of the Cine Club!
Sinead Goggin, Events co-ordinator with Yew Wood Events, said the members were delighted with the new season of films. The cine club works closely with ‘Access Cinema Club’ (the resource organisation for regional cultural cinema in Ireland) who together agreed to curate the programme for the first season. The Club will continue a long tradition of interest in cinema in Youghal.
The members of the cine club can choose their own film to be shown in the second season which will be after Christmas. This is another exciting aspect to look forward too. Sixteen members of The Enterprise Centre in Youghal, Co. Cork got a fantastic surprise when they realised they had matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win €25,000 in the Lotto draw on Saturday 20 August. The lucky syndicate, who purchased their ticket in Tesco, Youghal, have been playing together as a group for over six years. They were only one number away from winning the jackpot prize of €4.5 million.
“We all feel extremely lucky at the moment; it’s a lovely amount to win. All of the mother’s in the group were delighted with the windfall as our children are all going back to school this week and it’s an expensive time of year for every mother,” said Catherine Desmond, one of the members of the syndicate, at today’s photocall in Youghal.
The Enterprise Centre opened its doors in Youghal on Friday 28 November 2008. The state of the art enterprise centre nurtures indigenous small business in the Co. Cork area and is designed to provide a supportive environment to local enterprises, while encouraging them to innovate and grow.
While all 16 staff members expressed themselves ‘delighted’ with their win, no one has yet decided what to do with the windfall. A good staff night out is ‘definitely on the cards’, to celebrate.
