CLAYCASTLE PITCH & PUTT CLUB are delighted to announce that the Club has been named as the course of the month on the FIPPA website for the month of December 2011. FIPPA is the governing body of pitch and putt in the world and was created in March 2006.
Every month FIPPA bring you photos and details of one of the many beautiful and challenging Pitch and Putt courses from around the world. We,as a Club, are honored by the announcement that Claycastle is the course of the month for December and will now join a list of clubs worldwide who have previously achieved this, such as courses in the USA, Australia and courses all across Europe.
Claycastle course is considered to be one of the finest but toughest in Ireland. Not only do we hope that the club will benefit from this award, we hope that the town as a whole will also benefit through tourism from hosting major pitch and putt events in the future. Claycastle will host the 2012 National Matchplay Championships and we hope that this will help both the club and also business within the town of Youghal over the coming June weekend.
We thank everyone who has helped and continues to help in any way to keep the standard of the course at a high level, and we are honoured to receive this award. We are delighted that the continuous work that has been put into the course over the last twenty five years has not gone unnoticed and has all paid off and we look forward to another twenty five years of the course being in top condition.
We have recently created a Club website which we hope can bring information to any beginners thinking of taking up the great game of pitch and putt or players returning to play the game. The website will also be used in preperation for the upcoming National Matchplay Championships in June 2012.

Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Arts, Heritage, Tourism and Sport, Sandra McLellan, has congratulated Ireland’s latest golfing Major winner, Darren Clarke, on his victory in the British Open at Royal St. George’s.
Speaking today Deputy McLellan said:
“Darren’s victory continues the extraordinary story of Irish golf over the last number of months. The fact that he started the week at odds of 150/1 makes his victory even more impressive. He is a fantastic inspiration, particularly those of us over 40. To win his first British Open at the age of 42, and after 20 attempts, shows his continued dedication, commitment and quality. He is one of the most popular golfers amongst fans, who have supported him through some very difficult personal challenges. They will be delighted with this result.”
Referring to Minister Varadkar’s comments on Sunday’s Marian Finucane
Show she said:
“It was disappointing to hear the Minister with responsibility for sport and tourism to sound so unenthusiastic. While not everyone is a fan of every sport it is important that the Minister recognises the contribution that golf has made and continues to make to the Irish sporting landscape, and the potential it has to contribute to our economic recovery. I am glad the decision-makers in Tourism Ireland have a different perspective. Their ‘Golfing Ireland’ marketing campaign is well timed. They may need to re-edit their advertisements to include Darren Clarke now though!”

Locals and tourists alike, young and old, tried their hands at kite flying which initially seems very difficult to master but like everything with persistence can be learned. Then Paddy took to the surf and showed us what an amazing and spectacular sport Kite Surfing is. The afternoon was very enjoyable and stimulating and the Vertigo team have promised to return next year with Read more

Youghal rugby player David O’Callaghan in action
Eddie may be gone, but Youghal continues to make its mark on international rugby -albeit with a little help from Midleton- through local lad David O’Callaghan. The youngest child of Mary and Declan, brother to Sorcha, Nicola and Garret, David recently captained the Irish Under-18′s (Schools) for the first time, during a Six-Nation festival in Cork.
David had previously led the Munster Schools side against Gloucester and also in an inter-provincial tournament, last October, losing only lost to Leinster. Then came his international debut against Read more

Athlete Willie O’Mahony was inducted as the 2007 Usual Place Hall of Fame sports personality at the recent Annual Awards ceremony. The 62-year old grandfather received the accolade for outstanding commitment and contribution to his sport over a career spanning -thus far- almost 40 years. Former Olympic silver medallist and Sports Council of Ireland CEO, John Treacy, presented the Inch native with a Clashmore crystal trophy.
Willie, a salesman at Broderick’s hardware shop on North Main Street, has remained a member of Youghal Athletic Club since joining as a 14 year old. “I remember a bunch of us from Inch called to (the late) Paddy Cooney to join what was then the Youghal Athletic and Cycling Club,” he recalls. Their mission, he says, was inspired by such achievements as those of Youghal’s Paddy Coleman, an Irish champion over a mile and across country.
