Mr Ryan read an email from Aidan Foley of Medaza, the company holding Northern European rights of the World Championship from 2009-13, which stated that Failte Ireland could not meet the funding requirements, in the present economic climate. He added that he remained committed to promoting Youghal as a major centre for maritime activities and was working on alternatives to this end. Mr. Ryan said a number of options for festival based on water activities are under consideration.

Youghal Town Council is to allocate 17 designated parking spaces, from a total of 37, to DeValera Street resident permit holders (one per house) when a new car park, currently under construction, opens on the laneway. The spaces will be in lieu of compulsory removal of cars from the street.

Youghal Town Council has agreed to conduct a feasibility study with regard to constructing a floating pontoon development at the Nealon’s Quay jetty. The initiative formed a motion by FG Barbara Murray and seconded by FF Cllr Mary Linehan Foley at February’s council meeting.

Cllr Murray envisages a “floating breakwater made of concrete, with a proposed length of 150 metres”, which would permit safe access for all boat users. At full length it would accommodate 30 boats but would be composed of 20 metre segments that could be shortened or lengthened as required. With overnight mooring, it would greatly reduce trailer traffic on the quayside.
