Reports that up to €100,000 is being made available to upgrade the stand at Youghal Greyhound Track have been welcomed by David Stanton, Fine Gael TD for Cork East. While details of any funding are still to be finalised, I understand that Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Shane McEntee, decided to support funding for the track following his visit to Youghal last summer.
“I have been advised that Minister McEntee was very impressed with the commitment shown by representatives of Youghal Greyhound Track, Youghal Chamber of Commerce and other people from Youghal with whom he met. As a result, it is hoped that funding of as much as €100,000 will be made available to improve the greyhound stadium”, said Deputy Stanton.
“Youghal Greyhound Track has been in operation for many years. It is the only greyhound track located in a seaside location in Ireland and is very important not only for the tourism industry in the town but also the Irish greyhound industry in general. I am sure that this amount of funding will enable much needed refurbishment and improvements to be carried out at the track. These enhancements will ensure the continued viability of the stadium and also serve as a boost for future growth.
“This award of €100,000 for Youghal Greyhound Track coupled with the €400,000 earmarked for development of Youghal Swimming Pool should greatly contribute to the development of public facilities in Youghal. Funding of this level is much needed in Youghal. More, however, still needs to be done to improve local infrastructure and services. I intend to continue to work with people in Youghal to identify further projects in the area which might attract Government grants and funding,” concluded Deputy Stanton
Youghal Greyhound Track – Free Admission For Youghal Final – Monday 8th August 2011
If ever there was reason for a massive crowd at Youghal it will be next Monday. The Youghal Track Supporters Club have stepped in to sponsor Free Admission for everybody for a night’s racing that will include the final of the Premier Fantasy & Supporters Club Southern Oaks as well as two other finals, a Consolation final and a few opens.
It should be a really special night at the seaside track and the big final could be a really exciting affair with the hugely impressive Ballymac Mitsy drawn in trap six. This inside runner has been in the form of her life and, following a 28.67 first round effort, she went two spots faster when beating Kranky Ma by six lengths in Monday’s semi-final.
The other heat saw Denis Duggan and Brendan O’Callaghan’s Design Lady get up very late for a short head verdict over Kiln Kylie and Monleek Chloe in 29.13.
Draw for Monday’s final is: 1 Monleek Chloe; 2 Kranky Ma; 3 Kiln Kylie; 4 Spruce Joy; 5 Design Lady; 6 Ballymac Mitsy.

Anne Power, RIP, is known the length and breadth of every Greyhound Track in Ireland for her service to Bord na gCon for many years. Her efficiency, knowledge and courtesy were her trademarks for 48years of service to Youghal Greyhound Track, and she will long be remembered by many.
Anne’s daughter, Finola Collins, who is now carrying on her mother’s work in Youghal Track, organised a Best Dressed Lady night in memory of the late Anne, on the occasion of her first Anniversary and the event also coincided with the running of the Hondo Black Southern Oak Stake which, coincidentally, is an all lady dog race. Anne Power herself was a marvellous organiser, and her talents have most certainly been passed on to Read more
